Election Day in Puerto Rico

Ok, Tuesday is Election day and I can't seem to remember if in the States they do the same as here.
Here in PR, ALL businesses are closed, banks are closed and there is NO SCHOOL. I even think the Post Office is closed.
We go and Vote, then come home, BBQ, party, or go to the beach while we wait for the results.

Is it the same in the States?? I can't remember...

Re: Election Day in Puerto Rico

It's pretty much business as usual here. Most companies do let their employees off to vote if needed. Seems like many now vote via absentee ballot and we now have early voting stations in some states.

Then we go home and watch all the speculation on TV as states release their numbers. Sounds like we're a lot less enthusiastic then you guys!

Re: Election Day in Puerto Rico

lol any excuse for us to party and make a lot of noise we do.
You should see the Caravans that the political parties hold. This whole weekend it will be pretty much impossible to go anywhere, they will be at the street lights, with their flags and banners, people hanging out of their car windows, its crazy.
It really sucks when your trying to get home or somewhere and they take up both lanes in the street with loud music and people hooting and hollering. Its like giant parades all over the island.

Re: Election Day in Puerto Rico

jaja I do remember the last election over there is, it was crazy all day long. Funny thing is that I don't care about politics but I loved to watch how people behave during those days they just turn into absolutely crazy people. But as you say it was a day off and now I have to work over here, blahh.

Re: Election Day in Puerto Rico

Like PRmazda3Girl said, we need almost no excuses to party... Sadly, elections day here means Dry Law (no alcohol can be sold anywhere)... So the day before we'll get to see lots of people buying rum and beers by the caseload.

Basic research is what I'm doing when I don't now what I'm doing -

It should be like this in the states. I still have to work Tuesday from 8-5. I plan on getting to the poles around 6:45ish-7am before I got to work and then suffer through a day behind my desk.

Re: Election Day in Puerto Rico

Every few miles there's a truck or van with speakers 4ft tall blaring ads about their candidate. I gotta get some picks.
