*Updated: my company is laying off 25-30% of workers...

It's become a reality to me now. A manger leaked it to me yesterday that the company I work for is laying off a chunk of workers in the next 2 weeks. I work at the corporate office and none of our stores will be affected (yet). It looks like it's all going to be here in the office. The manager mentioned to me some names of people and I couldn't believe it! 2 department directors, our financial planning/analyst...and many more. We have about 200 corp employees...we'll end up with 125-150 by the end of the next 2 weeks. Apparently I'm the only medium level manager who knows...

Every department is getting hit:
Finance
Credit/Collections
Merchandising
IT
Operations
HR
Marketing

Holy crap....I hope I don't get layed off...

Well it happened...they laid off 20 people on Monday. Luckily I was not one of those people. Instead, they combined my department with another and moved all the personnel under me. What a relief! Still though...they said another lay off is possible. Hopefully things can turn around in the near future. Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

That sucks dude. I hope you don't lose your job. Seems incredibly odd that people are losing their jobs, and I am starting one Monday.

I started with this company when there where only 25 people in corporate. There's a lot of people beneath me with lower pay...that's the scary thing. But I know the in's and out's of my department...but i guess you just never know. I've been here for 8 years...I'm only 28 so hopefully the experience will pay off.

That always sucks man. I work for a major IT company and we're going through a lot of layoffs as well. Partly because we just bought out another major services company. Thankfully, it isnt that widespread and I'm actually in the process of securing another position within the company. I've seen people that have been with the company 20+ years losing their jobs over the past year since I've been here. Sucks..

Yeah dude that does really really suck. Hopefully your not on the list for many many months to come or at all really. Their doesnt seem to be any kind of job security nowadays.

Most likely. That always happens. He wasn't fired though. He went on to another job.

Geez, if you're one of the 25% left you're expected to do the work of four people now... not sure you're any better off
