Anyone else getting the Google G1 when it comes out?

Just in case you've been under a rock for the last few weeks

Quote:
Talk about cutting it close. With less than 12 hours before T-Mobile officially pulls back the curtain on the ultra-hyped G1, the floodgates have opened. Images extracted from the depths of T-Mobile’s G1 site have begun hitting tip boxes, and now TmoNews has managed to get their hands on a bunch of specs and details.

What’s known so far:

* In-store, immediate sales only available in stores within 5 miles of a 3G covered area. If a store is beyond that range, representatives will walk customers through a T-mobile.com purchase
* One touch access to: Search, Maps, Gmail, Youtube, Calendar, and Google Talk
* Gmail account and data plan required
* GPS
* 3.1 mp camera, no video recording
* No stereo bluetooth (A2DP)
* Dimensions: 4.6 x 2.16 x 0.63 in
* Weighs 5.6 ounces
* 480×320 65K color screen
* 5 hour talk time, 130 hour standby time
* Expandable up to 8GB
I already pre ordered 2. Anyone else?

I would if it wasn't on the T-Mobile network. I've read rumors that Google and Verizon are in talks...for this phone? No idea.

Why are there two clocks, and why are they showing different times?
I think I'd wait for the technology to mature a little bit more

Looks like whichever techie made the animation of the phone has only worn digital watches, and doesn't know the small hand is the hour hand, and the big one is the minute hand, heh.

A revolution gets its name by always coming back around in your face.

Re: Anyone else getting the Google G1 when it comes out?

i have the iphone and the android OS has always intrigued me. I am not a Mac guy and have been dying to develop apps for the iphone but that would require me getting a mac.

I most likely won't be getting THIS exact phone but probably one that runs android down the road or if they ever mod the iphone to run android i would be all over it.

The G1 looks a bit choppy but the idea is there. I sent the info to my sister who might get one since shes already on T-mobile and looking for a new phone.

Re: Anyone else getting the Google G1 when it comes out?

There are too many catches for me to consider it. I just got a 3G iPhone, so that's a big thing... but it seems that T-Mobiles 3g network isn't nearly as big as ATTs. As a software developer, the iea of developing for my phone intrigues me greatly, but like someone else posted above, I don't have a Mac, so that's out for me. An android phone might be my next phone in a couple years, but it sounds like Google has this one locked up.

-You NEED a google account (I know a lot of people have them, I do, but I don't use it) and that google account keeps your contacts and calendar.
-Only single-touch touch screen... surfing the web on the iPhone is so great because of multitouch. Being able to zoom in by pull/pinch is great. The preview I saw of websurfing on the G1 looked tedious, and even scrolling is choppy apparently.
-No headphone jack, you have to use some lame adapter.
-Slider for keyboard access. I'm not a big fan of sliders, especially they way they designed the G1. It look weird when its open since the whole thing doesn't slide, just the screen.
-Supposedly you NEED a microSD(or some size) card to download/play music. No on-board storage is rather lame.
