sound system for tool box

i want to build a sound system for my tool box. yes for my tool box. i have some old ford speakers im gonna try and build a model first then spoend some money on nice speakers, but im having trouble figuring out how to get the sound to the speaker.......i need a cable that has a plug for an mp3 play but is all wire and thick enough. ive tried headphones, splicing them to the speaker but it doesnt work ands the wire is to thin. any thoughts?

Hi Preston,

From reading your post, Im guessing that you are just trying to run a wire from your MP3 player to the speakers. The problem with that is the MP3 player is not producing enough power to drive the speakers. You need some sort of amplifier to up the signal. I dont know enough about them to recommend one, but a google search for "battery powered amp" might turn up something.
