A tricked out 3 for a baseline RX8

So I need an opinion... I love my 3, but I also love the rx8's waaaaay too much. And if i'm ever going to own a sports-ish car in my life, i'd probably want to do it now as i'm getting close to done with school. (i'm not drowning in school debt either ;] )

My question is, if you had a a baseline rx8 with just the bare essentials, I guess the equivalent of the "i" model of sorts for the 3, would a decked out sp23 be a fair trade for it? Given they have the same mileage. Obviously a dealer would laugh at you, but in the realm of a private trade. So to put it simply;

Rx8- Baseline engine, high mileage, cloth interior, nonpremium sound system, etc
Sp23- essentially the grand touring package with tons of upgrades that I'd done myself such as better HID's for fogs and lows, angel eyes, complete sound dampening of the inside, fiberglass sub box in the back professionally painted with a high end sub, etc.

Yeah, I know i'll get flamed for this, but damn, I like the look of the rx8 over any lambo or ferrari. Hear it handles like a dream too.

Personally I ADORE the RX-8... but to trade a completely decked out SP23 with all the "luxury" amenities Mazda offers from the factory for a RX-8 with the bare essentials just doesn't seem right.

Save your money and find a lower-mileage (that high-mileage note you made sounds *EH*) RX-8 with a higher "luxury" package. Don't settle on a particular RX-8 just cause you want one so bad... find THE RX-8 for you.

I wouldn't.

For the amount of work and money they require to run properly, they need to be a hell of a lot faster. I'd sooner own a MX-5 over an RX-8, it feels more like a sports car than that thing.

I don't think all of the mods you did yourself will add much value to the car. Sometimes you can actually gain value by removing mods. IF you find the right buyer, you might be able to see something out of it.

Eh, i'm not one for speed really. I honestly drive like a grandma lol. But to a private buyer mods can sometimes mean something. They certainly aren't ricey mods imo.

But a trade like this would really be selling myself short eh? So many hate on the rx8 because of all the issues, but didn't they just extend the warranty on all of them since 04?

It doesn't matter how good the warranty is if the thing is a piece. Sure, you get it all fixed for free, but if its in the shop constantly you never get to drive the damn thing.

Well, I think trading a tastefully-modded SP23 for a very high-mileage baseline RX-8 IS selling yourself short. While all of them don't have issues (I have 3 friends with one [and have since 04/05] with NO issues) you do need to keep that in the back of your mind.

Re: A tricked out 3 for a baseline RX8

Owning an RX-8 is like this:

Each time you fill up, you have to add a quart or two of oil. You have to change your spark plugs every other oil change. You get really crappy gas mileage no matter how you drive, and you fail emission tests for no apparent reason.
