Last game ever at Yankee Stadium (Sept 21, 2008)

Anyone else go?  That stuff was crazy.  I'll get pix up later. I was sitting right by Agassi & Steph Graph, in front of Joba's father and by Paul O'Neill and David Wells.

Ah the NE, center of the known world.

Well our team just made history too! The first team with >$100 million payroll to loose >100 games.

BEAT THAT! (not to mention the shady voting of your new stadium and waste of taxpayer money, plus the destruction of what seems like a great park)

Yankee Stadium........where is that ????????????????

Just kidding......

Went thru the same thing when they built new hockey venues in Montreal and Toronto. Those were 2 sad days when those two last games were played also. Sort of like history being destroyed.

Newburyport, MA was the "Yankee City" studies extensively by W. Lloyd Warner.

Warner's Yankee City study was undoubtedly the most ambitious and sustained examination of an American community ever undertaken. Warner and his team of researchers occupied Newburyport for nearly a decade, conducting exhaustive interviews and surveys. Ultimately, the study produced 5 volumes: The Social Life of a Modern Community (1941), The Status System of a Modern Community (1942), The Social Systems of American Ethnic Groups (1945), The Social System of a Modern Factory (1947), and The Living and the Dead: A Study in the Symbolic Life of Americans (1959).

Apparently Yankee city is in MA. Who would have known?

Um, no taxpayer money is involved in the creation of the new stadium, other than transit improvements (MetroNorth rail station, things like that, which were badly needed).  Under Guliani there was a plan for the city to build stadiums for both NYY and NYM, but that was nixed under Bloomberg.

As for the park, they're replacing the park that was there (which was a sequence of disconnected small parks) with a large park with a total area greater than the combined area of all the small parks that were removed. Or did you mean the destruction of Yankee Stadium?

Higher overall capacity though, including standing room. What's more important to them, though, is having that much-needed extra retail space. $7 12oz beers FTL.
