You folks heard of "Original D"?

I was flipping though the channels yesterday and came accross the "Asian Channel" - not being raceist by any means - that is the name of the channel on Time Warner Cable - anyway - it was a kick - they have a warning at the begining of the show called "Original D" that says "all stories are ficticious - please obey all traffic safety laws". This is a cartoon - obviously aimed at pre teens - The driver's sit on the passager side ... they drive to the left .... speed is in Kilometers ... girls are "sideline" characters and look like hot lesbian drones (YES) ... they actually SAY the words "Street - Racer" 20 times an episode ... they show speeds on the speedometer WAY over legal limits ... feature cool drifing and all kinds of crazy shit that would NEVER pass in the states as an "American Show" ... yet I saw this with my own eyes !!! They even show some older characters "smoking cigarettes" ... I am sort of on the fence between being really excited about the show and almost "offended" that somehow this made it onto the airwaves ... I have seen now about 5 episodes ...

Do you mean Initial D? Just because it's a cartoon doesn't mean it's for kids. In japan, more adults watch cartoons than kids, so it stands to reason that there would be some that have adult-type situations in them. However, it sounds like you enjoy the show, so why are you complaining? I've seen almost the entire series and think it's very entertaining.

funny guys - I am over 40 - does that help to explain? I graduated when tears for fears "everybody wants to rule the world" was the number #1 song.

Im just giving you a hard time. I was singing that song yesterday . It is a great show. Very entertaining. You can pick up a couple good insights into proper driving techniques, but too many people watch it and think they are making tofu runs to work and end up crashing.

Also, it is hard not to use an epic picture like that.

Re: You folks heard of "Original D"?

Yup Initial D and probably 60-70% of Japanese Anime is made for and targeted to Teens and adults. There are a number of series that I would never show my son nor are targeted for him. Anyway, a halfways decent show, not a huge fan but it isn't bad.

My favorite is Cowboy Beboop. Awesome anime.

The action movie sucked. IT was totally different from the real story line.
