Replaced Dell Laptop LCD - Problem

I dropped my Dell laptop and the LCD cracked, bought a new one and when I installed it, it didn't work right.  At first there was a vertical white stripe and there were faded black and white areas around it (see picture below)  Now a lot of the black/white area has turned into a baby blue and the fades are vertical.  Anyone know what could cause this issue, if the screen is flat out broken or if it's something I can fix?

Note:  This is exactly how it is seen, the camera did not alter it at all.

Here's how it looks after having the screen on for about 20 mins.

Re: Replaced Dell Laptop LCD - Problem

I rebooted the computer, when it started back up, the LCD did not work at all, only the external display I have connected. When I press the button to switch between LCD and external display, it says "there is no external display attached" even though only the external is working.

Sounds like you broke more than just the screen. Might have damaged the video card.

Re: Replaced Dell Laptop LCD - Problem

If it won't recognize the external display, you more than likely damaged your motherboard and/or video card.

Looking at the LCD, it appears to be working fine, but your on-board video card is toast.

How can the video card be toast? I havent touched it. When I plug the broken screen back in, it works fine, it's just broken. I have the computer plugged into an external display now and it works just fine...

Re: Replaced Dell Laptop LCD - Problem

If the on-board video was toast, the external display would not work at all. If you read his post, he says very clearly that the external display works fine. It's only when he tries to switch back to the internal display that he gets a confusing error saying that there is no external display attached. This is probably because it can't detect the internal display so it assumes that the external display must be the only one.

I'm going to stick to my original suggestion that you got ripped off by whoever sold you the replacement display.

Yeah if I reboot with the new display on, it doesnt work at all and the computer thinks the external is the only display. If I reboot with the broken screen on, it works fine. I'm going to have to talk to the guy who sold it to me then. I already sent an email I guess I have to wait until Monday for a response.
