Honor killings persist in 'man's world' Posted: Friday, September 12, 2008 8:37 AM
Filed Under: Islamabad, Pakistan
By NBC News’ Shahid Qazi and Carol Grisanti

BABAKOT, Pakistan – In a tangle of bushes and trees outside a remote village in southwest Pakistan, six close male relatives of three teenage girls dug a 4-foot wide by 6-foot deep ditch, on a sweltering night in mid-July, and allegedly buried the girls alive.

The girls' crime: they dared to defy the will of their fathers and the customs of their tribe and choose their own husbands. The mother of one of the girls and the aunt of another were shot and killed while begging for the girls’ lives, according to local media reports.....

Re: Screw Pakistan!

and now the Paki generals have told their troops to kill US soldiers!
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...-26397,00.html

KEY corps commanders of Pakistan's 600,000-strong army issued orders last night to retaliate against "invading" US forces that enter the country to attack militant targets.

The move has plunged relations between Islamabad and Washington into deep crisis over how to deal with al-Qa'ida and the Taliban

What amounts to a dramatic order to "kill the invaders", as one senior officer put it last night, was disclosed after the commanders - who control the army's deployments at divisional level - met at their headquarters in the garrison city of Rawalpindi under the chairmanship of army chief and former ISI spy agency boss Ashfaq Kayani.

Leading English-language newspaper The News warned in an editorial that the US determination to attack targets inside Pakistan was likely to be "the best recruiting sergeant that the extremists ever had", with even "moderates" outraged by it.

The "retaliate and kill" order came amid reports of unprecedentedly fierce fighting in the Bajaur Agency of Pakistan's tribal areas, an al-Qa'ida stronghold frequently mentioned as the most likely lair of Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri.

At the same time, a series of brutal killings by the militants were reported.

The beheaded bodies of two of nearly 40 police recruits abducted a week ago were found near the town of Hangu. Their discovery follows warnings that the recruits would be put to death, one by one, unless Pakistan stopped its big offensive in Bajaur....

Re: Screw Pakistan!

I will agree with the statement that us going in is enraging a lot of Pakistanis. Not that I don't think those are legitimate targets we are going after, but I think in a lot of ways we are causing more harm then good. Of course getting the Pakistanis to actually crack down on extremists and Taliban in their tribal areas probably isn't going to happen really either. SNAFU.

Re: Screw Pakistan!

They're muslims and take a lot of pride in their religion, culture, heritage, and customs. They will fight untill they die! This shit will never end. :x

Re: Screw Pakistan!

At least now they have a democratically elected government instead of Musharev the dictator.

Sticky situation. The Taliban and al qaida have a safe have a safe haven in northwest Pakistan, and yet if we attack them there without permission or cooperation with the Pakistanis, we are violating their sovereignty.

I mean how would we feel if Mexico sent troops over our border to get what they called terrorists? Or worse, the Canadians!

[/quote]I agree but they have to be careful. Its a fine line. If they look too cozy with the US they risk an uprising.

Re: Screw Pakistan!

if it wasn't for our financial aid, they would probably starve. I say cut them off. If you aren't with us, you're against us.

or, the Pakistani gov should have a referendum vote for support of US troops against extremists....allow all Pakistanis to vote...
(and get rid of the ones who vote against us) :P

Re: Screw Pakistan!

^^^ nice jingoistic cliche. Come on John, you know not every thing is black and white. While I don't like giving all this money to other countries, when it could do so much more spent here, foreign relations are tricky. We can't just demand that other countries do our bidding because we give them aid. We don't own them because we give them money.

Cut the aid off and I'd bet they won't cooperate with us either way.
