So I think my drunk driving days are over

So I got pulled for dui last night, going back home from a friends house. Made it about 3 miles. He told me to come to his car, looked at my eyes said your not driving. Asked if the passenger could drive, looked at her eyes and said nope. Now what boggled my mind was he said do you have any friends that can pick you up. He said I could park my car and wait for them to come and get me. He didnt look at my license or anything on both of us. So we talked for about 10min, said driving drunk isnt worth it because I could swerve once, or worse someone hit me then he has to deal with a accident with a dui.

So parked my car, then about 5min (he was waiting for my friend to come) he pulled up and said hey man I gotta go on a call. Now I cant tell you how to live your life or how to drink or that you cant leave when I leave etc etc just be careful.

Seriously this was the nicest cop I have EVER met. If every cop was like this I would obey every law. I thanked him tons of times, shook his hand twice, then he went off. So I personally am going to take this as the light I needed to see in my life and after 4 years of heavy drinking and driving I think I am just going to stop. Its 2008 and I have never heard of a cop being so nice about this and what he did for me. You only get lucky once, and this was my one time deal. So good luck to me in making the right choice, hopefully.

It was seriously freaky how nice he was. After I sobered up I drove to the girls house for the night and we sat there wondering why he was so nice. Id say he was in his upper 30's. Great guy, Im really glad he let me see this light. Yup my eyes are wide open now, no more driving like that for me. He told me its $13,000 for the first offense.

He probably did more good than the justice system has ever been capable of.

Re: So I think my drunk driving days are over

Just to shed some light, this happens more then we would like to admit to.

I would never let someone go, I would wait for a ride to pick you up, but never let you go. To many risks in doing that.

I mean no hard feelings for what I post on this website. Anything I type/write/post/say on this forum is only that of general debate and discussion. I am not biased toward anyone or anything. I am neutral in everything I do on this website. Only those facts that are presented to me sway my thought process and siding of each discussion topic that I post about.

Re: So I think my drunk driving days are over

i never been pulled over for DUI since DUI doesn't only apply to alcohol. Lets say someone was pretty messed up (weed) but was still able to drive and do normal things would you let them off or would that story apply to that too.....

Re: So I think my drunk driving days are over

you did get a lucky break but like keepjeepin said it does happen more then anyone will admit. Its nice to see someone share a nice cop story because all you hear about are the bad ones. My entire family is cops and I respect all cops and I listen and if I deserve what is coming to me I am not going to complain, just take it gracefully. Cops are out there to do there job, and thats to serve and protect.....your cop did just that he wanted to protect you and others. They dont like to give tickets, its more work for them anyways. Now there are plenty of bad cops but you have to think of why they are bad, can you imagine going thru all the crap they have to go thru every day that they work? I am sure you would get annoyed and pissed off at people and take it out of the wrong person. But this guy I am so glad was realistic and gave you your second chance to improve on yourself and not do it again. I give you props and huge props to the cop, its so nice to know they are still out there doing the best job they can.
