Computer Help Thread

I need help, with my computer.

I have two partitions on my hard drive. One is C:, which everything is on. Meanwhile, their is a second partition that was at first used as a back up file type partition called D:.

Well I formatted partition D: and now it just sits on my hard disk with unused space. As you can tell in the picture below.

Now I would like to merge the two partitions into one so that way I can have all of my hard disk space available.

Can anyone tell me how to do so, or help me through it. BTW, I am not really in the mood of formatting my C: partition at the moment, however if I need to I will.

Re: Computer Help Thread

You should be able to use D: if it is formatted. That is, you can specify for programs to be installed on D: instead of C:, or save files to it as well. If you want to put the two together you need a program like Partition Magic, but I think there are other freeware programs that do similar things if you search. I hope this answers your question, but I'm a little confused by how you stated it. If you create two partitions, one where you install Windows and other programs, you should still be able to save things onto the other. Let me know if this helps.

edit: dude you need a defrag ASAP. And I take back what I said before, since you only have 17 gigs on the second partition you might as well try and find software that merges the two. I don't know how well that will work with only 25% free on the first partition though. Try this: http://www.ranish.com/part/

Re: Computer Help Thread

Yeh partion magic was used to make one hard drive on my computer into 3. One for the OS the other 2 for a print spool and a page file. And it'll work in reverse as I'm going to make it just one big drive again. Also that pic on your desktop might put a strain on any partion you form!!!!

Re: Computer Help Thread

Partition Magic USED to work great until Symantec bought them. Now I wouldn't touch it. Hard drives are cheap. I'd buy a new one (bigger and faster) and copy everything to the new drive or better yet, do a fresh windows install and copy in your data.

Also, WinXP's built in defrag is horrible. Get Diskeeper or better yet PerfectDisk.
