Driving to work while being chased

I've had my 3 hatch for all of 2 days now but it seems whenever I drive quicker than the rest of traffic (lets not call it speeding), someone starts to follow me and play a little game of tag. Today on my way to work a tuned VW rabbit, or Gti, couldn't tell it was debaged, followed me through traffic aggresivly then gave me a thumbs up when i backed off. My car is completely stock so i was suprised i got a thumbs up from someone in a well modified car. Anyone have any stories of "playing tag" with strangers? How often does it happen to you? It might just be the area that I live in.

Re: Driving to work while being chased

haha nice.. yeah there was this one time i was hauling ass cause i was late for work and this redneck guy in his lifted F-150 on like 36'' mudding tires came out of no where and was riding my ass for about a mile. I then decided to do some in and out of traffic fast and furious shit and believe it or not that guy was keeping pace! i was like wtf! traffic started to clear up and he got next to me, and rolled his window down and said in a hick voice, " i didn't mean ta ride your ass, but ta i'ms late fer ma cow showing competition!! DURRR" i was like OH......um okay! later! i was like wow did he really just say that? hahah....

Re: Driving to work while being chased

my 2 best drives ive ever had were with a random Mazdaspeed6 who loved playing around with my stock 2.3L hatch, but by far the best drive ever was with my good buddy in his brand new Saab 9-3 Aero, damn those things are fast!

HA! see i live in Clifton and thr are thys lights on 46 that are by a store called outer limits *card game store or w/e* any-who. at the last set of lights thr is a 2 lane road that goes under an overpass and its just 1 really long strait that cops cant hide on. So back to the story. thr was a land rover that pulled up next to me and put it in nurtal and reved the engi. xD my clutch is a bit fuged so i let him pass me up form the start but blew past him at a buck 120 he gave up tryin to catch up to me.. Ohh yeah i have a 2.3l stock. Good times good times. another time i had a cadi try and take me. but when i was in my GTI days it was like attracting flys to a light. it was horable everywhere i went i had people try and race me on the highways....

I love having someone keep up...makes driving on trips fun as hell. Don't really have the chance to play for my daily work commute though I'm always catching people on 95 going to/from va beach!

One trip I made I was going with a truck for well over an hour going 90+ the entire time....never saw the gas needle drop that fast before

Re: Driving to work while being chased

^^^ if you were behind that truck you'd see a serious rise in your MPGs - draft him all the way. I did that going down to Florida once and was probably getting like 40-45 mpgs.

Best little game of tag I've had was in my mom's old diamante on the palisades parkway a few years back. Picture this: '92 diamante vs. Porsche 911 turbo
He obviously was just playing with me, didn't even pass me, just rode my ass laughing the whole way.

It happens pretty often in here NYC though, seems everytime you get up to speed, someone wants to race you- no matter what you're driving, nor what they're driving.
