Re: Airports Sux

Try this on for size...

I'm at Charles De Gaul airport in France and my travel partner and I are waiting in a long line to check in for our flight back into England. We are 1 hour from departure, and still have yet to go through customs. Wouldn't be a big deal for my friend since he's English, but imagine my scenario - holding a US Passport and hoping they let you through. We finally get through customs (thanks to an ambitious airline attendant) and then are held up at the metal detectors. The person decides to inspect every inch of your camera bag and you have only 10 minutes before departure.

Then, if it can't get any better, you are loaded onto a people mover and left to sit on the tarmac (ok, stand) for nearly 45 minutes. No one will tell you why your flight is now late, but you see the airplane sitting just beyond the tip of your nose. Then, a migraine sets in and you want to cause harm to yourself from the pounding migraine.

That was my last travel experience.

Re: Airports Sux

That sucks... I fly a lot for business, but I've never had any real troubles. The longest delay I had was ~8 hours when a snow storm hit the Kansas City Airport earlier this year. It was really crappy since I had to drive 90 miles there on ice and slush and then just wait in a stuffy and crowded airport.

What airline are you flying? Any word on why they cancelled your flight?

That really sucks. Luckily, I've never had such an experience. Although, I haven't been on a plane since 1998 with my parents. Next time I fly I'm definitely bringing my DS with a bunch of games just in case!

Re: Airports Sux

I own you all in shitty airplane experiences.

On my honeymoon.....We fly down from Calgary to Dallas then to West Palm Beach, no problems.
On the way back we have a good flight from West Palm Beach to Dallas. When we board our plane in Dallas we get on, take off and all of the sudden over the intercom the pilot announces that we have to return to Dallas (mid-assention) because our luggage compartment door was left open. On landing they blow a tire and a brake line. Apprantly it will be a quick fix... 3 hours later, still sitting on the plane (with no AC or TV's) they offer to sell me a snack for $5. Fuck off....1 hour later they let us off the plane to walk around the airport. 3 hours after that they call us back to our plane because they finally fixed everything. We make a flight back to Calgary, miss our connecting flight to Edmonton and are forced to either wait for 24 hours for the next flight or find out own way home. Good job United..

2 years later we decided to take a trip to Vegas on Delta Airlines. Took off from Edmonton and had a connection in Salt Lake City. We get to Salt Lake and are told that our flight to Vegas is cancelled because of snow on the ground in Salt Lake. They said our plane was not equipped to handle snow conditions, even though every other plane coming in/out of the airport was. We had a choice, stay at the airport for 2 days for the next available seat or take a flight on another airline. They also told us that they wont refund our ticket from Salt Lake to Vegas because this delay wasn't their fault. They then told us they had arranged alternate transportation and put us on a dinky WW2 style plane to a small city called St. George. After arriving in St.George they told us there is a shuttle that goes to Vegas (2 hour drive) and we were on our own to get to the shuttle and pay for the ticket. If it wasn't for 2 police officers escorting the lady who told us that, I would have choked the bitch. We finally arrived in Vegas, about 14 hours after our scheduled arrival. We also missed our Cirque du Soleil show.

Long story short, fuck United and Delta.

If you want a great flight and better crew, fly with WestJet. I've flown over 10 times on them and have had nothing but great things to say.

Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer

Re: Airports Sux

in 1998, we were going to the bahamas for a business trip, ok great time we had. when we got to the airport they check-in lady could not "feel the seal of the state" on my dads original birth certificate, and my mom forgot her license at home. so we had to go to a state office, in orlando where we were flying from, and they said we had to go to jacksonville/tallahassee to get a new birth certificate, long story short, my dad gave them a piece of his mind & mouth, and they faxed a birth certificate to the office and put the seal of the state on there. this took at least 4+ hours. then we had to go and get my mom her license, another hour. finally we got back to the airport and got all checked in and were on our way. Delta check-in people............................................ .............

one land trip. me an my mom were on a class trip coming back home from Washington, D.C on a bus that looked like Miami Vice. were in the middle of the carolinas in freezing weather in February with no snow. Suddenly our bus started to emit black smoke from the engine compartment, and we immediately pulled over an the driver and co-driver told us to run away because they had no idea of what was going on. it was an oil line rupturing we were later told. So anyways, we were on the side of the road in the carolinas for over 7 hours with nothing to do, but to wave to people passing by as we sat on the side of the highway. finally we got another bus to bring us home at 2 a.m.

Wouldn't you be pissed if you had to travel there?

I know I was. A few months in Detroit for work is all I want to see of that God forsaken town.
