What Camera should I buy? (Got the Sony A200 SICK!!)

Hopefully I am in a decent spot to post this...

So I am getting into a photography phase and I need a etter camera. I dont want to spend an arm and a leg, but at the same time I dont want a crappy camera. I have a sony cybershot right now. Its decent as far as point and shoot's go. Its 7.2 Megapixel and I really like it. But I want something that can take really crisp photos of just about anything, thats easy to use, and that wont make me broke. Im looking to stay under the $500 mark.

This is still technically a point and shoot, but the settings can beadjusted just like an slr. The only drawback is the lens, which is ok, but not interchangable.
Canon g9. Will run you about $460.

If you want an SLR a great starter is a canon rebel xt it'll run you about the same as the g9, but you can buy extra lenses. This one comes with a 18-55mm lens

If you want better you'll have to go over the $500 mark. If you go to say a best buy, just don;t base everything off megapixels. As good as MPs are they basically tell you how large the picture can be also you can take say an HP with 10 mp and a canon with 5 mp the quality of the canon pictures will almost always be 100x better because of the components inside, such as glass.

Re: What Camera should I buy? (What section does this go in?)

If you're seriously trying to get into photography, start with a Canon XT or Nikon D40. If you don't want to spend any money after purchasing the initial camera then you can go two ways. 1) SLR-like cameras such as the previously stated Canon G9 (bulky compared to regular p&s) or 2) Extremely nice point&shoots that will take nice shots (with lots of manual options such as shutter and exposure) that will be small and practical enough for everything besides taking car photos (vacation, small family gatherings, parties). If you were to go for option #2, you can probably look to spend $2-300 and come out with an excellent camera. For P&S, Canon takes the cake. IMO, no one is able to compete with Canon and their lineup of p&s cameras (unless you're talking about really budget cameras where Nikon is pretty solid). Go to your local best buy or circuit city and fiddle around with all of the p&s cameras. whichever feels most comfortable will usually do the tricks (also mess around with the options [again, imo, no one beats canon's simple and easy options menu either] and overall feel in your hands).

hope this helps and report back with your purchase!

Well so would I, but he can get an XTi w/lens for $400-500 as opposed to $700 for the XSi, and he stated that money was an issue

And just what in the hell is that?

Oh okay I see now... eh, for the extra hundred I'd take the XSi. Guess it's kind of a moot point though, as the OP is looking to spend under $500
