so i've been hired for parts and service at mazda!

anyone have any words of advice? currently i'll be making around 28 grand a year at my job now. i have a kid on the way. i love mazdas and genuinely believe in the brand as well as the products it sells.

this is an interesting opportunity and it is the only mazda dealership in my city, i'm wondering if i should take it?

give me some feedback.

Re: so i've been offered a job as a mazda salesman

I wouldnt ever take a job that doesnt offer a base salary...do it offer that or based on comission, dont be afraid to ask these things in the interview.

To me just knowing how much I will have exactly each month or more....more stable for paying for things with family, bills, etc...

Just something to consider :}

Re: so i've been offered a job as a mazda salesman

Especially with a kid on the way I would be looking into something that pays better and on a more consistent basis. I'm not sure how your car market is in Canada at the moment but if it's anything like the U.S. car market then I would steer clear. The oil crisis is not helping the industry (again not sure of what the situation in Canada is) and I would never want to wind up in such an unethical position. I feel car salesmen do things to benefit themselves and only themselves. They aren't out to help you get a fantastic deal on a car since that means less commission for them. If it sounds like something you would LOVE doing (not just kinda like it) then I guess go for it. Also, I don't have kids (thank god) and I'm not married so I don't have any real world experience with that kind of financial situation but $28k a year is not enough to raise a kid. Hopefully your wife (or g/f) has a comparable or greater income because if not you will be struggling to make ends meet. Just my .02 and congrats and good luck.

Not sure how the car business works up in Canada, but I wouldn't be a car salesman here (except for a flagship brand, maybe) for any amount of money.

What sort of education do you have?

dude, you should easily be able to clear 28K a year as a car salesman. maybe ask to see of they will hire you with a guarantee of X dollars for the first couple months as a trial period.

You might do well. Selling Mazdas will be all about volume and Canadians LOVE their Mazdas.

When I sold cars I was #2 in top sales when I left. I left because the long hours and stress of ensuring the money kept coming in. Also, customers can be very difficult. There is a phrase "buyers are liars" which, unfortunately, I found very true.

Good luck with your decision.

Re: so i've been offered a job as a mazda salesman

my mazda dealership actually offered me a job because of my personality and they know im very enthusiastic and more knowledgeable then even their own salesmen. I have thought about doing it part time for extra cash and fun because I would be doing something I enjoy. The only downfall is there isnt much you can climb as far as promotional wise, if your a salesmen thats basically all you can be other then a sales manager at some point but mazda requires a minimum bachelors degree for any management positions.

Also my dealership offers an hourly wage plus commission. But you do have your quotas like every other dealership. So if your going to work for a car company it better be someone like mazda or anything that is on the fuel efficient and economy friendly kick. So I say go for it after all your questions are answered and you can never ask too much it shows interest and that you thought it out thoroughly.

Good luck to you!
