Amazing TV series: AMC's "Mad Men." Anyone watching?

If you're too lazy to click

Quote:
Set in 1960s New York, the sexy, stylized and provocative AMC drama Mad Men follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell.

The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Jon Hamm), the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values.

What an amazing series (now in its 2nd season that just started last Sunday - season 1 on DVD). Interesting concept, solid writing, meticulouslyt period-correct sets and wardrobe, terrific cast that shows Hollywood's "A-list" mentality is a bunch of crap.

If you're not watching, you're really missing out!

Yes, I love this show! I heard about it by accident and completely missed the first season. I ended up watching it on demand and wasted an entire day!

I couldn't help but sit through the first season and think about what we know now (health wise) that they were just learning about. The amount of smoking and drinking (and in combination) amazes me.

Was a little dissapointed by the 2nd season opener though.

A lot of folks were, but I think it only seemed "slow" because it's setting up so many upcoming plotlines ... give it time, I can't believe this show will disappoint:

Don's going downhill physically and culturally, from smooth operator to "dammit, Viagra doesn't exist yet" old fart. Too soon to say if his job performance will do likewise, in addition to having to contend with Pete Campbell (established rat) and Duck Phillips (an "X" factor looking to hire new rats). Sterling Cooper's relevance to the changing world is definitely coming into question, which so far seems to be Duck's worry. Betty Draper is gaining self-confidence, and an evil streak to match. Salvatore's making more room in his "closet." Pete Campbell's impotence apparently knows no bounds - wouldn't it be sick if he and his wife adopt, and unknowingly get the love child he fathered with Peggy Olson? And did Don send the book (poem) "Meditations in an Emergency" to Rachel Menken? Is anything going on there any more?

my wife is getting into this show. She missed the first season, but I'll probably end up getting it so she can watch it.
