Most random topic award 2008...

So as the title states, this will be a pretty random but here it goes anyways...

This is a question pertaining my toilet at home. For some reason, it seems to flush itself (or make the flushing noise [it sounds literally like a blow off valve with pressure being let loose within the water pump] but not actually flush all the water out of the bowl) every 5-10 minutes or so unless I close the water valve. I'm not losing that much water but a tiny bit gets sucked out and a bit more has to get pumped into the reservoir by the pump. I was wondering if there were any handy dandy home technicians or hell if any of you guys are plumbers for a living if you could help me out. I've narrowed down the problem to the water pump basically and am hoping there is a quick and easy fix to what might be a common problem?! Let me know, thanks!

And sorry for seriously such a random topic.

yes, do to home depot and get a replacement valve-bulb assembly. they don't cost much...basically, your plunger has a slow leak so the valve that is controlled by the float is being cracked open (the hissing) barely, and then closed again after it fills.

some things to try first:
1) wipe off or clean the plunger at the bottom. if that is gunky it could leak.
2) adjust the float level slightly, it might work better in a different "spot". (bend the rod or whatever).
