Just wasted 5hrs to look at a POS MZ3

drove nearly an 1 1/2 hrs to look at a car at this dealership. Online it looked pretty good. When i got there completely different story. Interior, nice. exterior, @$#%^$ TRASH! All four wheels were a different shade, scratches and dents down the passenger side, and on close inspection the grill looked like it had been replaced and front bumper replaced. AND crunchiness from the front end when you turned the steering wheel left and right.

Sure enough CARFAX report showed a front end collision in DC.

So f'n pissed. what a waste. shouldve checked carfax before I left.

only positive side: dealer offered to continue looking for what I want and send photos of every inch of the car to me via email when they find one AND meet me half way next time.

Did you talk to anyone before going? If you did, that's messed up and they would never see my face (or the faces of any of my friends) in their shady dealership ever again. I once called a dealership and they claimed to have the car I wanted, only to find out that my 2 hour drive was wasted on a car that was sold several days beforehand. Once I got there, they immediately started trying desperately to sell me this terrible car that had obviously been sitting around for ages. I think they thought that I was so eager to buy the car that day that I'd just take their POS and be happy with it. I still remember the name of the dealership 4 years later, and I still advise my friends to stay away.

If you didn't talk to someone, I'd just say you need to start calling ahead and asking lots of questions before driving long distances. And either way, that's pretty messed up for them to stock such a terrible car. Whatever the case, you live and you learn. It sucks, but there's not much you can do about it.

yeah, I spoke and emailed with someone several times.

doesn't look like the car had even been prepped. engine was still dirty. paint didn't even look like it had wax on it. scratches all over the place. And the front end crunchiness issue could've been picked up during inspection. just goes to show dealers do the bare minimum.

We've been there too. Were looking for a 3 sedan for my wife, and drove 3 hours round trip to see it only to found out it had been ridden hard and was not in great shape. When we told the salesman we didn't want it because someone had dogged it, he said "Well, I'm sure it's okay, we did a full inspection on it before we put it up for sale."

Re: Just wasted 5hrs to look at a POS MZ3

rediculous. Honestly, i'm fed up with looking for an f'n car. whole reason I'm getting rid of the legacy is to get something lighter on the credit card on gas. I narrowed my search down to the mazda3 hatchback and VW rabbit hatchback.

MZ3 gets better gas mileage, but finding a 5spd is like trying to find a virgin at the Playboy Mansion. On top of that, there is alot of interest in my car, but all from guys far away. This thing is rare! a 5spd manual wagon doesn't exist in the legacy line anymore! surprised someone doesn't pick it up even if it does have high mileage.

I may end up keeping it. don't know. I need another beer.

Nice!!

I feel your pain:
I had been in the market for an old classic bug, and found one East of Dallas. Drove all the way up to the town of Tyler and the car was a hacked together POS. The guy had cut the roof completely off and welded in another top. To make matters worse, he didn't jig the car up before he cut the roof off. So nothing fit. The doors hit the "B" pillar, and you could see where the cuts were. I was not happy about it at all. The only good thing about the trip was that I was able to drive into Dallas and see my sister.
BTW, I drove just over 750 miles in one day. Left the house at 4:45 a.m. and got home around 7 p.m.. for a hackjob..
The guy put it on Ebay and got $5600. The buyer must've been an idiot, because he gave the seller positive feedback.

Re: Just wasted 5hrs to look at a POS MZ3

Had the same issue as well. When I was 16 my father and I saw a decent Jetta. Went to go look at it and the oil hadn't been changed in 10k miles and the passenger rear had been destroyed in an accident. I hate people who try to cover up their, or someone else's, negligence!
