Need advise on New York and Yankee Stadium please!!

Taking a vacation on July 17th with my wife and son, visiting the Big Apple for the first time. Going to the Yankees game to see the house that Ruth built but I've got a problem. I bought bleachers seats to see the game on the 18th when the A's are in town (from SF bay area and we're A's fans). Just found out that if you have bleacher seats you can't get access to the rest of the stadium. Is that correct?? We're going to the game specifically to check out Yankee Stadium so that would suck.
I've been on Stub Hub to try and get seats in the stadium but finding three together is EXTREMELY difficult. I found two sets in TIER Section 31, row P & T (nose bleeds I know but don't care, we'll be there). I'm hesitant to buy them because the ticket description doesn't give seat numbers, just says "General Admission". What's that mean? Don't want to spend $82 on each ticket to find out another surprise like I did with the bleacher seats. Besides the game, going to do the the typical tourist stuff. Already have a Ground Zero and Statue of Liberty tour lined up. Doing the Empire State building and the Museum of Natural History as well. Arrive on Thursday the 17th and leave Tuesday morning the 22nd. Still lining up other things to do. Staying near Times Square, actually right accross the street from Carnegie (sp?) Hall at the Salisbury Hotel (hope it's nice, guessed when I picked it after reading reviews on Hotels.com). Any city advise I could get would be appreciated!!

I work around the block from Carnegie Hall at Hearst Tower. It's not really Times Square up there, but still, you can get to the heart of Times Square with 1-2 stops on quite a few subway lines in the area. As far as Yankee Stadium goes, yes if you have bleacher seats you won't be able to get to the rest of the stadium. However, you should look into getting the Stadium tour. It's not very expensive and they bring you all over, including the dugout and locker room (if on an off day). I've been on the tour a few times and it's definitely something that you should try to do being that it's gonna be gone shortly. If you need some advice on food in the area I can definitely help out with that as well.

Thanks for the reply! Food advise would definitly be appreciated, nothing fancy just good food for a good price. Doesn't have to be cheap, just don't want to spend alot of money for a crappy meal. The hotel we're staying at has local attractions listed and I know it'll be a several block walk to get to a few places, that's not a problem. I've already checked out the tours, completely sold out for online advanced tickets. They sell 20 more each day for each tour, 12PM and 1PM but you have to get there early, stand in line and hope you get tickets. I found three tickets that give seat numbers but they are 1, 2 & 5, not 1, 2 & 3. That would have two people between us which isn't a big deal, they might even be willing to slide one seat down so we could sit together, just might buy them. Keep the advise coming, all will be appreciated.

Hah, reason 45800945 why the Sox are way cooler--at Fenway any ticket gets you access to the entire stadium, unless you don't have monster seats in which case you're not allowed into the monster seating area, but that's not exactly a big deal you know! Go sox

That's just a fact of how the stadium is set up. The bleachers in Yankee Stadium are physically separate from the stadium... and there's not very many of them.

Anyway, I'm not sure, but Yankee Stadium might have standing room only tickets (aka General Admission)? I don't know of any, but it's possible. Fenway definitely has a ton of those.
I'd offer you my season tix, but we only have 2.

Its sad but needs to get done...plus the new stadium looks real nice. Stop by and say hello at the garage next to the new stadium, ask for Bill...

Yes, the yankees do have standing room tickets, and tons of them. Including standing room, the old stadium has more "seats," but we don't know yet exactly how much standing room there will be in the new park.

Where does the current stadium have standing room?  I've been to hundreds of games and never seen this.

Edit:

I just looked up GenAd... I think that's just bleacher? As far as I can tell there is no SOR in the current stadium, but there will be 1,000-2,000 SOR spots in the new stadium.
