Re: What to buy....

If you're not a gamer, why would you pay extra for a "fast" machine?

I use mine just for surfing internet and grad school crapola. The cheapest laptop out there today will perform nearly identical to a top tier one in daily activities. I know many will disagree, but my wife has an expensive laptop and I have an el-cheapo. Same exact user experience...

Re: What to buy....

...My present machine is 3 1/2 yrs old. Very slow to navigate on the net,and getting pretty ratty also. I hate a machine that acts like it has a dial-up connection. I use it wireless, and I also want to upgrade my router to an "N" from a "G", as I'm told that will help also. I know very little about these things, but I do know that my present machine is garbage....just want a decent machine.

Oh yeah...forgot to mention...I'm in Canada...so I'll have to pay more than you folks south of the border I imagine.

Cheap?

Just go to Best Buy or Circuit City. If you know anything about computers you will know what you are looking for.

Here is a nice cheap laptop.

Re: What to buy....

I had a Sony Viao and it was a great little machine. Work gave me a Thinkpad...this thing is really great! A little bit thicker than most laptops but quite powerful and some nice/handy features as well. Use it for traveling and have a docking station at work with a nice widescreen and bluetooth mouse/keyboard.

HP makes a good laptop as well.

Re: What to buy....

...yeah....I've heard a lot of good things about HP. I'm going to stay away from cheaper stuff this time around. I'm not rich, but I don't mind paying more if the quality is there...and HP is very popular up here.

Re: What to buy....

Someone I know has had some issues with her HP, ultimately they had to replace it.

That's a good value if you don't mind the color, I think it's replaceable.
