The company i work for has "town hall meetings"....

...that basically is an event every few months where employees from all over the healthcare system that i work for can offer suggestions to better the facilities and themselves. I hate to say it but I walked down the hall today and saw so many overweight people...it just got to me i guess. maybe because i didnt see any hot chicks . anyways, i was thinking about suggesting to my employers that maybe they can implement some kind of mandatory work out program to help people get in shape and to be more healthy. i personally think its a great idea but i wanted to see what some of your opinions might be to something like this....
if u dont think i should suggest this..please include why .

You are singling out a group of people... NEVER a good idea.

they tried that in the movie Gung Ho, lol. it won't work...and it's prolly not legal or enforceable. instead, try suggesting a healthy living perk. award points for working out or walking or riding a bike to work...and then offer some sort of bonus or random award to the participants.

they already have a program like that but it obviously doesnt help very much. and your really not singling out anybody. ur enforcing it on everybody, except maybe disabled people, but nevertheless every employee would be required to do so. it would encourage a better lifestyle of living and in my opinion energetic, fit, healthy people will probably work much better than the opposite. they say 3 days a week is a good workout schedule, so id propose mon, wed, fri for physical workouts...and tues and thurs as education for healthier living. probably no more than 30 min and doesnt have to be like lifting weights or running distances. it could be simple decent workouts.

I would never bring that up at a town hall meeting. It won't go over well. Most companies have a suggestions or comments type of communication vehicle.

Our company implemented a pilot program called kinetics living which includes free personal trainers, diet programs and support. It was so successful that it's now an offering for all employees. Best of all, it's free!

Most large companies will have to adopt this type of program as health care costs for the obese will severely hurt their insurance plans.

i agree that it would be cool, and if during paid time, i would think that could be well received, but i still think making everyone do it isn't going to fly.

i would build a 10 story tower with nothing but stairs to get up. put the vending machines at the top.

Re: The company i work for has "town hall meetings"....

i wouldnt announce it in front of everybody...instead i would write it as a suggestion on the provided index cards and hand it to them. im going to do it...because even if they dont make a mandatory program, maybe they will consider some kind of Kinetics living like danielj's company or at least something similar. Maybe they just need the thought planted in their heads.

To the person who said it isn't legal, that's not true. It is 100% legal to fire people that smoke as long as you give them ample notice and time to "fix" the issue... Same deal applies
