What do you think of hood ornaments?

There was a time that they were very popular. Is it a type of americana that now seems too corny?
Remember Boss Hog from the Dukes of Hazard and his longhorn ornament?
Jaguars still have their cat on their hood as do so other higher end cars with different figures.
Seen one the other day with a bulldog on the hood!

So, what do you think of hood ornaments?

here's one here:

dont like them really...

I personally think they should only be on cars like Mercedes or high class passenger vehicles over cars like ours

If I could find a TAZ hood ornament, I would consider to put in on my Mazda3 hood! :P

Re: What do you think of hood ornaments?

Americana? It's something the Europeans started... it really depends on the car, but it's more of a tradition than anything now. I always enjoy seeing the 3-pointed star when I visit my parents and use their Mercedes. It fits the car.

Mack trucks uses the bulldog.

I think the best hood ornaments came from the 50s, especially Oldsmobile with their "Rocket".

Went to Google Images, but it looks like someone made my life a bit easier:

My mom drives a red 2008 Toyota Corolla. She agrees the Mazda3 is better in every conceivable way, but she didn't want to have matching cars. Women...

Yeah, but sometimes offsetting colors match better then the same colors. I guess the same principal applies with cars (at least in their mind).

My wife is my hood ornament.
