Cellphone usage...

I've had 3 near death experiences in the last week with people talking on their cellphones and driving...most of these involved people nearly rear ending me because they weren't paying attention to the car in front of them...

I have a bluetooth headset. The only time I use my phone with that is when I'm in light traffic, otherwise I don't use my cellphone at all.

so lets hear it..whats ur oppion on cellphones?

I like my roads the same way I like my women. Nice and Curvy.

Re: Cellphone usage...

the issue is, some people can multi-task and others cant. it wouldnt be fair either way (to ban then or allow them) because it would be hurting another party, however the safer thing is to ban them, as the side effects are less.

i cant tell you how many times ive almost been hit, bumped, rear ended, infuriated, etc. by people on cell phones. anytime someone is driving too slow and poking along-cell phone. anytime they stop and dont have any idea when its their turn to go-cell phone. they just dont pay attention at all to the road and are just "movers" trying to get somewhere.

i admit i do talk on the phone on occasion, but only for short times if its necessary (like getting directions if im absolutely lost and cant stop for one reason or another) but if the traffic gets bad or something happens i say "yeah hold on.." and drive, then say "ok sorry, whats up". other people feel that putting down the cell phone isnt a necessary action.

on that, using hands free devices etc. wont help a single bit. the issue is that they are distracted, not that they dont have enough hands. they are paying attention to their conversation and not what order they are in at a stop sign, or that those in front of them are stopping.

sorry for the rant, but in a huge city im getting fed up with avoiding stupid accidents that arent my fault just because somebody else is too ignorant to put down the damn phone and pay attention to what they are doing. i have been in situations more times than i can count with these people who cut me off/dont stop at stop signs or redlights/dont yield to me to the point to which i almost cause another accident avoiding them. it pisses me off beyond reason and they do get the finger from me as i fly by them to pass them :P (plus at this point, if they hit someone at least im in front of them and dont have to watch out for rear ending them at their own stupidity)

:x

Re: Cellphone usage...

Done in NJ already.

Still find a numerous amount of people talking on the phone though. More then half are women, under the age of 30.

its still distracting. no different than singing and dancing to music or reaching behind you to tend to your child, etc. anything that takes your eyes off the road or attention from driving is dangerous.

You can be just as distracted by talking to someone in the car as you can talking on a cell phone. What it boils down to is simply bad drivers who don't pay attention, whether it's because they don't have the ability to or they just don't care.

Just like the ban on smoking, ban on guns, or ban on performance parts on cars. "If it is safer for everyone lets ban it."
