Anyone else rocking the meat smoker?

So, last week I bought my first smoker. Today, its getting its first trial run. I've got a 6lb pork butt in there with a nice dry rub and some mesquite chips.

It went in about 30 min ago (9:15am San Diego time) so by about 3:30, it should be ready to go. YUMMMM.

I'll try to take some pics as it goes.

I have a fairly cheap cylindrical charcoal smoker. It works pretty well, haven't used it in a long, long time, though.

I need to learn how to smoke. I hate cooking and luckily we have a BBQ place in town that is ran by a guy who did competition bbq for 20 years.

LMFAO "oh i thought i didn't need that" i bet in your head you were like "go kick your mom in the ass for me when you get home " 08mazda2.0

Re: Anyone else rocking the meat smoker?

well, we're about 2 hours in... Its smelling amazing. I just changed out the wood chips for a new set. Also, as per the recommendations I have read online, I just gave it a nice glazing of apple juice with a spray bottle. Added a little bit of apple juice to the drip pan as well. Overall, its looking pretty good right now.

Re: Anyone else rocking the meat smoker?

Everyone goes Mesquite chips in a smoker, I am a fan of hickory. Especially if you are going to use anything like apple.

I don't have my own smoker, though I have used them a few times before. I like going with a honey/cider glaze over pork and smoked with hickory. I don't really have the room to store a smoker, but with my next house I would love to own one...even though I know I would probably use it all of twice a year.
