Go see the movie SHARKWATER

I recently watched this and I had no idea how fucked the shark population is on earth.
Here are some facts about shark hunting that most people dont know.

Over 100 MILLION sharks are killed each year for their fins. And thats it
thats about 15,000 sharks AN HOUR!

Shark fin fetches $250+ USD per pound.

The only thing that rivals shark fin profit is selling illegal drugs.

in the past 20 years 90% of the earths sharks have been killed. And only for their fins

Please visit www.savingsharks.com to help ban shark finning and illegal long line fishing.

I watched this movie and I was absolutely blown away at some of the shit that goes on about this subject. Even if you dont want to help its a very well put together movie. Give it a watch.

Re: Go see the movie SHARKWATER

Their is no way 15,000 an hour. That is insane, unless the japanese and chinese specifically fish for them.

How do we even know what the real shark population is? Did someone go down their and cout all the sharks? Do they have a census? What if their is a big population of sharks that chill out in the middle of nowhere.

I mean no hard feelings for what I post on this website. Anything I type/write/post/say on this forum is only that of general debate and discussion. I am not biased toward anyone or anything. I am neutral in everything I do on this website. Only those facts that are presented to me sway my thought process and siding of each discussion topic that I post about.

Re: Go see the movie SHARKWATER

Large predators are critical to the health and survival of any given ecosystem. Humans never seem to realize this until it is too late. Pollution, overfishing and abandoned fishing nets all claim their share, but "finning" is estimated to be the primary cause of the decline in the shark population. As an infrequent but enthusiastic scuba diver, I find this disgraceful.
