Computer Help With My Router Please!

I'm having problems with my home network. My laptop has a great connection with my Netgear router and has no connection problems. However, the internet connection on my desktop is either prehistoric slow or non-existent. This occurred suddenly, it seems, within the last week.

What suggestions are available to get my desktop connection back to the speed of my laptop? I'm running Verizon DSL FYI.

Thanks.

Have you tried repairing the Local Area Connection (right click on 'Local Area Connection', click 'Repair&#039? You may have an IP address conflict. It'll clear things up with the router.

@antricparticle - I just tried that and I'm restarting the computer. I do not think it helped.

Any other suggestions or tech gurus here?

Try to power cycle the router. Unplug for 10 secs, plug back in.

^^^ that's a good start, just like the South Park episode . If that doesn't work, you can use winsockxpfix if you have xp:

@cbogey88 - I've tried that as I unplug the router every morning. Each day, the connection still stinks.

Let me check out mica3speedy's response.

You could go into properties, then TCP/IP properties and make sure everything is set to obtain addresses automatically.

Re: Computer Help With My Router Please!

@cbogey88 - I have Vista on my laptop (connection is fine), but I have XP on my desktop (connection problem I'm talking about). I cannot use this fix because my desktop with XP and the problem cannot get that winsock XP page to load.

Beats me. I hate these kinds of problems. Usually I just mess with stuff until it is fixed.

I know. I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow and see if they have any suggestions.
