Best car for a cheap drag project

Hi,

Me and a couple of friends have a project. Build the best drag race car with a 2000 $ Budget. This include the car and all the modifications.
When everyone's car will be ready we heads up to the track and see who did the best.

I know that an old civic is fearly cheap to buy and to mod, but i was thinking of maby a rear wheel drive car.
Maby a 240 sx, i know that there is fairly cheap Turbo setup on Ebay for the 240 sx. Dont know if it will be a good way cause turbo tunning can cost a lot !!

So what u guys think will be best the car to win this contest ?

Re: Best car for a cheap drag project

Building a drag car thats even close to fun for $2000 is well, next to impossible.

Fox body mustang is your best bet.....90-93 with a 302, they can be made stupid quick for probably cheaper than any car out there. Intake, headers, exhaust...set of cams, and add a bottle.

A revolution gets its name by always coming back around in your face.

A buddy of mine had one. He did nothing to it, except exhaust, intake, bored and ported block, royal purple oil, drag radials, and msi ignition system. It could beat an turbocharged 02 trans-am ws6. It was crazy fast.

I doubt you can get a running one for cheap enough to mod.

Im going to drop a small block 350 into a datsun 280zx. should be an 11 second car for around 6k including the car price.

A 1st gen DSM (Eclipse, Talon, or Laser) would be good. AWD. Gut it. Tune up, crush the BOV. Open up the inner fender by the side mount.Quick car for cheap, just not all that reliable.

I didn't say it would be under $2k, but I bet for around $5k you can have yourself a car that runs 12's all day long.

Figure $2500 for the car if it wasn't too much of a shit bucket, and the other $2500 in mods.
