Re: Tire Expire

Good information to know. Thanks for sharing! It's got me curious now. Next time I go out to my car, I'm going to check my code and see what year my tires were made. I only bought them about a year ago, so I'll have to guage it from that.

Re: Tire Expire

The tires on my '78 are 15+ years old...

Honestly, you want to have a tire company tell you you have to get new tires every 6 years even if they aren't worn? :/

<- skeptical

Next it will be brake companies telling us we need to replace our pads and rotors every 10k miles.

Re: Tire Expire

I think there is some truth to this. Maybe 6 years is a little short, but if you think about it, is new tires every 6 years that bad? I've never gone more than 4 years on a set of tires.

The reason I think there is some truth to this is my grandpa had brand new Bridgestone tires for his '95 Lincoln Town Car. They had been garaged for 11 years and never saw the road. He had "forgot" they were in the rafters above the garage, and installed them last year. Within 1 week, all 4 tires seperated where the the tread meets the sidewall. Thankfully, he doesn't go on the freeway, but his Town Car did suffer quite a bit of damage.

Re: Tire Expire

Only thing I would worry about on older tires is dry rot.

Re: Tire Expire

Mine have 18600 on them, perhaps a good thing to replace them sometime this summer. Wear bars are mighty close! When it rains I have to watch the peddle
