Oil Analysis anyone?

Is there anyone else out there that has gotten used oil analysis done on their vehicles. Lots of us take this for granted, but you really can get a good snapshot about how your engine is wearing by reading one of these. It can also tell if you are having fuel dilution problems, coolant leaks, etc. I was really interested to keep an eye on my engine throughout the break-in phase, so I got a couple of UOAs done:

The 3200 mile interval was with Valvoline Synpower 5W-30 and the shorter interval was with Motorcraft Syn Blend 5W-20 done at the dealership.

I just finished up a 4500 mi interval using Amsoil 5W-20 and I sent away for an analysis on that. So far, no troubles with the intake kit but I rode the last interval pretty hard, so I'm interested to see if I have increased silicon levels due to the cone style K&N-type filter on my air intake. Also, I'm running a 93 Octane tune on my car, so I want to see what that does to the numbers too.

Is anyone else interested in stuff like this or do you just dump oil and put new oil in every 3000 miles? Eventually, I'd like to do extended drains (once I'm out of warranty), but I think analysis is an often overlooked part of maintenance and can really save your butt if you catch things early.

I have never heard of doing this. Where do you send the oil? Is it at the dealership or an independent lab? I would be interested in trying this if the price is reasonable.

blackstone is the most common place. you can order a kit online and send it in when you change your oil.

btw, quite a few members have posted their UOAs here in the forums, most likely in the maintenance section.

Looks good! Wear metals seem to be dropping nicely. Any particular reason you went with 5w-30?

Here's mine:

That's from last year and I should probably get another one soon.

What additive(s) did you use? fuel or oil?
