Canon PowerShot owners check this out!

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK

Add more functionality to your Canon PowerShot point and shoot!
  • Raw image support

  • time-lapse photography

  • auto bracketing

  • exposure up to 65 seconds

  • faster shutter speed

  • and tons more!

Makes me miss my A610.
The change is not permanent at all. It resides on your memory card.
There are lots of examples of what this hack can do!

I'll have to check this out later when I've got more time. My girlfriend and I both have Canon P&S cameras.

[/quote]Time lapse photography? auto shutter release based on brightness value? (lightning shots!) :P
Plus it doesn't apply to your camera. :P

Alright, someone has to tell me how to use scripts and I am definitely interested in auto shutter release!

Time lapse can be done with some add ons to a number of cameras. Auto shutter release is not horribly different from TTL-OTF or for Lightning photography...do a long exposure like everyone does.

For the super high shutter speeds...in general not needed. The way most people accomplish freezing motion on a macro scale or for super high speed events is using a flash with a short duration. Most higher end flashes when discharged at 1/16th power have flash durations of 1/10,000s or faster.

Pretty much everything to scripts allow you to do can be accomplished with other cameras either built in, using manual controls or with 'add-ons'. Sure the scripts are cool, but in the end it is still just a digicam.

It's funny how some of these kinds of posts correspond to front page digg.com stories. Diggnation!
