Which car should I get?

OK, heres for the noob post.
I'm seriously looking at getting either an 07 or 08 MS3, I've been lurking on this site for about a weak, and from what I've seen, these cars seem pretty solid.
I test drove an 07 at a dealership last week and loved it, from a guy who never thought he would own a hatchback, it would take a pretty serious car to do that. So here's my questions.
1. The age old question. The other model's I'm looking at are the Civic SI's, and the WRX's. Mostly the SI's, the dealership where I live offers LIFETIME WARRANTY'S on engine, tranny, and power train. So how reliable are the MS3's, do you think there will be a lot of problems with them 4 or 5 years down the road? Are Mazda dealerships pretty stand up with their warranty's?
2. Do you expect the 08's to surpass the 07's in any way?

3. If I'm not exactly a gear head, is this a fun car to have?

4. Would you buy another one after you've had yours?

Now i know since this is the Mazda forums so I'm going to get a bit of a biased opinion, but try not to be too biased.
Thanks, any and all tips and criticism is accepted.

1. the SI will definitely have a lower chance of overall powertrain breakdown than the WRX and MS3 simply because it does not have the added complications of a turbocharger (and the added stresses of putting loads of hp down). i would not worry about 4-5 years. cars honestly don't usually break during the warranty...otherwise, the manufacturer would be in some serious trouble... if you keep your car stock, you should not have any issues with mazda over warranty.

2. 08's have a few factory recalls addressed out of the box. all in all, i'd pick an 08 just to save some trouble...it's nothing major, though. now, if you're talking the 2008.5 release, it has a few added features such as alcantara in place of cloth, slightly different dash/trim, radio that supports mp3 playback, and 2 new colors. nothing interesting added to the powertrain, though.

3. yes, this is DEFINITELY a fun as hell car to own... you are guaranteed to have a blast...but then again, the same goes to the other two cars you mentioned...it's just that you will have more fun (imo) in the MS3...

4. yes, i would definitely buy this all over again. i've not had any major issues with it and she still drives like a bat out of hell! every car has their ups and downs, and i feel ours has a lot more ups than downs, so i have no problems recommending it or buying it again myself...=d

welcome the the forums...

Re: Which car should I get?

I like the SI's too and they can make some nice power NA with I/H/E that would challenge a stock MS3 if he were a bad driver.
But I really don't like the interior on the SI's.
I think the Speed3 has a classy interior as well as a sleek exterior.

They both have an LSD, ipod hook up, and little things like that.
Handling is hands down to the MS3, and believe me, it surprises me sometimes when I take a turn and don't understeer.
Power... With a little money you can have a low 13 second car if that's what matters to you most.
Swap out your turbo for a rebuilt one and you can easily see 12's.

I don't know how much it would take for the SI to get there. Maybe add hondata in there but I still think it'd be a 13 second car.

Those are my thoughts for now, i guess. lol

BTW, this car lifts the front under WOT like crazy. At least with my mods haha.

Re: Which car should I get?

TY..yea, after scanning the forums, I'm dieing to get one for myself.
Another questions is, can I install my subs/amp in the stock head unit or do i need a new one?
and I'm guessing if i do my own mods it will void the warranty, so do i need to get the dealership to install them for me?

depending on your dealership, doing your own mods wont void your warranty unless something goes wrong and it gets traced back in the mod you've put in... i blew a couple of fuses messing with the wires (careless mistake of my cuz i was just cutting wires with the keys in and battery was still connected) trying to install a direct wire for my radar... luckily it was hidden in the black electrical plastic soo the dealership didnt know i had caused it and fixed it for free.. but i was still nervous bringing in my car because i had put in a cobb short ram intake and was way to lazy to put back the stock airbox back in cuz the stock airbox is a pain to take out and put back in... but my dealership didnt care.. maybe because the problem had nothing to doo with the engine... but if theres something wrong with your engine your dealership could blame the problem on your mods if you dont replace it with the stocks b4 getting it serviced.

Edit: ms3 is the current FWD King Beast. Might want to pick one up soon b4 the start making mazdaspeed mx-5

Re: Which car should I get?

I've owned two 3's, one an '04 3s and this '08 MS3. Both were/have been great cars and its really the first car I've owned that I wasn't tired of it after 2 years of owning.

The MS3 is a great car and probably the most fun you can have for the money. I looked at Subbies and Mitsu's before buying the Speed3 and am very happy with my decision. The mods you can do that have a high ROI are awesome, and cheap for the most part. Good luck with your choice.

Re: Which car should I get?

I like both cars but from my opinion fun is matter of what kinda of driver you are. A purist driver typically does not mind dropping a few gears and running up to redline, on the other had Turbo driving has made me lazy I no longer have to do all the work but I still get that rush.

I like the SI but the lack of power makes me want to open the door and use my foot to speed it up, also dont let the honda name fool you they recently just had a recall about 3rd gear popping out, but generally reliability is quite good and will continue to be for many years after you have had the car.

The speed3 is an overall performer and the boost of power is an instant smile inducer, but quality is in question sometimes and makes me think twice about the long term.

So hopefully for what it is worth I hope this help you in the decision you make.

Re: Which car should I get?

I've driven the Si a couple of times on extended test drives. The Si is fun at high revs, but doesn't have nearly the pull of the MS3. The MS3 is one of the fastest cars I've driven, including some older year Corvette's as well as the STI and Evo. It has more power for the money than just about any car on the market. So if it's power you want, buy the MS3. If you want VTEC for the name and styling that some prefer, buy the SI. I think the SI would be fun to thrash on a daily basis, but the MS3 is more fun around town with the gobs of torque it provides.

Re: Which car should I get?

Another question, When do the 09's come out. I'm going to get getting one within a month or so, but if 09's are going to be out soon, I might wait to get one?

Also, what if I throw an Evo in the mix??
