opinions on a new TV.

I'm in the market for a new TV.

it's going to be for my room, so i'm looking at 30~40" range, LCD or Plasma so i can mount it to the wall. I will only have directTV HD, and a upverting dvd, so there's no real point to getting a 1080p (DirectTV is 1080i).

recommendations? best "value" for the buck?

Re: opinions on a new TV.

I would recommend going with 42" as it seems all the really good deals are for that size.

Re: opinions on a new TV.

I don't recommend plasma due to ghosting, however many people like it. I also don't recommend a tv that plays in 120 htz. I've seen it in action watching a blu ray disc and it was TERRIBLE. At 120 htz it kept trying to render the image to fix any rough edges the image would make, but it would speed up and slow down the movie. We could all tell that this was happening and we were all very disappoointed. I would recommend Sony, Toshiba, or Samsung as well priced good tvs. I would even recommend Vizio if you don't want to spend a lot of money. I have a 32" Samsung 720/1080i tv and I love it. I would say 1080p would be nice, but if you get a tv below 40" there's no point paying extra for 1080p, however if you decide to get a tv above 40" then spring for 1080p!

LMFAO "oh i thought i didn't need that" i bet in your head you were like "go kick your mom in the ass for me when you get home " 08mazda2.0

Re: opinions on a new TV.

I also agree that the technology for 120hz tvs isnt quite there yet so don't waste your time/money on one yet. I too have Samsung lcd's and they are great for the price. I have a 3253h 32" in my bedroom and a 46a550 46" in the living room and both are amazing. You can get a 32" lcd these days for pretty cheap, got mine for under $850.

For an upconverting dvd player checkout the Pioneer dv-400v, i have one and it plays everything I could through at it. It's also divx certifed and will play divx movies, xvid, wmv. I download tv's show and movies and stuff and this thing plays them all.

You get what you pay for when it comes to lcd tvs. Don't skimp. Read reviews, you can check amazon, cnet, and avsforum for tv reviews.
