Buy imports directly from Japan

I'm sure you've all heard of it or seen it in magazines...companies like Japan Auto Direct that buy guys for wholesale at auctions and ship them anywhere in the world. Rx-7's, Supras, S-15's; all the badass machines of the 90's. Basically I'd like to know your thoughts about these companies and the procedure as well as any tips from someone with knowledge of the topic. Thanks a bunch!

I looked into getting an EVO IV imported back in the day. Basically impossible, there are to many laws and only certain places can do it, and you basically have to replace the windshield, headlights, etc to make sure they are DOT approved and whatnot. To say the least, its a pretty complicated procedure, I really wouldn't recommend it.

i read on insideline that they get the body/chassis shipped over. then you buy the motor and drivetrain and such. and put it together.

Re: Buy imports directly from Japan

This may be slightly off topic... but if you are looking for japanese cars, you can even look at sites like autotrader. I was thinking about buying an old skyline, but went with the MS3 because of financing and warranty.

Try this, go to the site, put in "Nissan" and your zip code, then put in all cars at any distance. Under model, select "other"

Voila! Some are street legal... others not so much. Check em out.
