Read what my gf's roomate did!

So I've been staying at my girlfriend's house on and off for the past few months right? Well, yesterday her roomate gives her an envelope that says my 1/3 of the bills. Thing is only my gf and her room mate live there. She won't talk even to my girlfriend about it. What do you guys think? I think it's crazy!

BTW...this girl is a BITCH!

Depends, really. You shouldn't get hit with 1/3 of the bills, but I can see her frustration. It's really not a good environment when one roommate has a tag along that's always around.

She should have obviously voiced her concerns first, though.

To quote the great Tom Arnold. "Women, can't live with them, can't kill them."

A revolution gets its name by always coming back around in your face.

Well, this is a dicey situation.

Technically, since you were/are living there. You should pay your 1/3 or help your girlfriend out.

Your probably going to say, well I don't live there really. Let me tell you this, if you have stayed there, and you have personal belongings there, a judge, would say that you are part of the residence and most likely would rule that you should help out.

I mean no hard feelings for what I post on this website. Anything I type/write/post/say on this forum is only that of general debate and discussion. I am not biased toward anyone or anything. Re: Read what my gf's roomate did!

BUT...i don't have any personal belongings there! Thats the thing. We're in college, and my stuff is at my dorm room...I may have a few clothes there, but those are there because she wears them to sleep in.

Edit: AND I am only there either when my girlfriend is there, or to go there and let the dog out and then leave. I only watch TV when my gf watches TV, and I think I have taken two showers when my gf was not in there with me...

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

what is "on and off?" 3 days a week? 5 days a week? 1 week on 1 week off?

staying as in all day, eating, showering, etc?

I can see her frustration.

but if you're just spending the night a lot and not impacting their bills at all it shouldn't be an issue and I'd talk about it. if your staying there increases their utilities bills(by50%), I would pony up.

+1 to the above comments. Maybe you aren't there every nite but if its on a frequent basis, then yea u live there. And along with that, you should be responsible for part of the rent/bills. Sucks but nobody likes a freeloader lol

On and off as in, some nights I'll stay there. And some nights I don't. Like when I totalled my mz3, I didn't have a car and didn't stay with her much that week. And some nights, I just stay back at the dorm.

And like I posted before, I don't do anything that my gf isn't already doing around the house bill-wise...

Re: Read what my gf's roomate did!

How much have their utility bills actually increased since you started staying there fairly often? I can't imagine they actually went up another 1/3, or even close to that. I think the best compromise is to determine how much their bills have actually went up, and pay that amount.

Re: Read what my gf's roomate did!

It's not the fact that you're increasing their bills. What's at play is that when you have a roommate who agrees to split bills 50/50, having a third person around a lot of the time (sounds very frequent by your description) makes the other roommate wonder why you're not contributing.

So while you might not increase the cable, water or electric bills, you're in there enjoying the TV, using the water and enjoying the heat/ac that your girlfriend's roomie helps to pay for.

So if you had a place and let a friend (i.e. you're not romantically involved) stay there 50% of the time, you wouldn't expect any sort of monetary contribution to the expense of the apartment?
