Had a local dealer call me, offered to buy my car.... odd?

I didn't talk to them on the phone, my wife answered... I was busy doing something outside.

Anyways, the local Ford/Mazda/Mercury dealer called us up and asked if they could buy our Mazda3....
Said they were "low on used cars".

I didn't purchase this car there, I purchased it at a completely seperate Omaha dealer... Yet, I've had it serviced at this location in Lincoln.

I just found it odd... Too bad she didn't ask how much they were willing to pay. I wonder just HOW desperate they are.

This happen to anyone else?

I will not buy this record, it is scratched.

It's a scam. They lure you in with this "offer" only to turn around and sell you another car. Just ignore the call.

Marketing ploy, just like the flyers saying "We have customers that want (insert your model of car here) and we'll give you top dollar and a good deal on a new car".

Scam just to get you in the door.

Car salesman are like politicians. If their lips are moving, they're lying.

We get it all the time, phone, email and mail. I told them once you have a deal if you give me what I bought the car for, access denied.

Things are slow at the stealerships. Just a way to get you in there to try to buy a car.

Re: Had a local dealer call me, offered to buy my car.... odd?

Like others said, it's just a way to get you into the dealership and put you in a new car. They normally will call or send out flyers if the sales are slow or if the used car inventory is low.

...and these calls/flyers will get a lot of buyers carrying over a balance to a new car loan. Never a good idea. :x
