CD Player can't read cd's

I have a shelf system I purchased 4 years ago or so. It's nice and I love it. About a year ago, it stopped reading CD's and I just packed the system away and forgot about it. I recently unpacked it and it still cannot read cd's. It gives me an error 6 message. I would prefer not to replace (but repair) this system since I can't find anything brand new that I want to purchase.

Seeing as I have never repaired a cd player, how costly do you think it could become? Should I just continue to look for a new system (I'm not in a hurry to buy one, but the sooner the better). I'd hate to have to get rid of this since other than the cd error issue, it's in great shape.

Re: CD Player can't read cd's

I had a problem with my home CD player not reading CDs. I bought one of those CD cleaner CDs with the little brushes attached to clean the laser reader. This worked for me.

I forgot about a cd cleaner - I'll pick one up.

And the system was made by Sony. I just can't find anything now that has the features I like.

There is your problem right there lol.

I've had good luck with their equipment in the past.

I could always break out the Teac 1260 (if someone can tell me what exactly that is, I'll be surprised!).

SONY IS KING!

haha anyway you could call customer support and see if they can offer some advice. Its probably a broken/dirty lens. I would suggest at the very least spraying some condensed air in there, it may just be dust on the lens.
