Start the buzz!

It would be sure interesting to see what would happen if this actually worked:

I got the below email, figured I'd send it along, stop my bitching and do at least a little something. Copy the whole thing and paste it in an email and send it along to everybody, and at least try our best to see what could be possible...

__________________________________________________

Until the below email gets full media attention, more than just emails (which everyone gets dozens per day), it likely won't amount to anything.

I'll avoid EXXON and MOBIL, but a message like this needs to be all over YOUTUBE, all over MYSPACE, all over the country's local news channels, in every paper and news magazine, and talked about on every morning and late night talk show, with a COORDINATED START DATE in order to work at all.

It could work, but the buzz has to be soooo big, that EVERYONE IN AMERICA hears about it from somewhere, and knows when to start. If Letterman, Leno, Oprah, Obama, etc. are talking about it, and when the start day is, THEN SUCCESS IS POSSIBLE!

SO, how does May 1st, 2008 sound? If everyone in America hears the plan to not buy gas from EXXON and MOBIL starting May 1st, 2008 and they hear it not from an email, but from every newspaper, radio show, TV show, and Internet megasite, MAYBE WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE! We can make every EXXON and MOBIL gas station in America have empty lots for weeks, starting May 1st, 2008!!!!!

So, those of you with power, influence, connections, and recognition, MAKE IT HAPPEN! Start the May 1st, 2008 buzz and MAKE IT HAPPEN! Let's see what happens if this really works!

Now send THIS to eveyone you know!
_________________________________________________

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddie s who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea.

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $ 3.15 for regular unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace...not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at leas t ten more (30 x 10 = 300) .. and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.
If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, t hen 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all!

(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you!
Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

Re: Start the buzz!

This has been tryed for YEARS and it fails everytime. The fact most americans dont give a shit is why.

Now, for this to work, americans would actually have to NOT drive for it to affect the oil companies. If everyone bans gas for one day there will be double the business the next day. So making that ban day useless. Could this eventually work? yes. But it will take one hell of a planning, and that planning would be talked about WORLD WIDE. We made them rich, and we can make them poor, but whos willing to actually do it? Maybe .5% of the entire country

Buy a bike and commute to work. I live 3 or 4 miles from work but will never ride my bike there. I dont think gas prices are too bad. If I am willing to spend 5 bucks at starbucks for an 12oz coffee or 2 bucks for a bottle of water I cant complain.

Shit if I worked that close I would invest in a huffy. America needs to get away from oil plain and simple. So many other cheaper "free" solution out there. But free plentiful resources doesnt give the goverment billions in taxes.

Re: Start the buzz!

Dumbest idea ever. Learn something about how gasoline is brought to market.

As mentioned above, people need to understand that the ONLY influence you have in oil companies is the amount of gas you use. If, all of a sudden, nobody patronizes a certain gas retailer, the same gasoline will just get shipped to where people are going.

Re: Start the buzz!

...never worked in the past because it was never really truly done as planned....besides....if people were to stop using certain brands of gas, then the other companies would simply raise their prices....in addition you refer to people with power or influence to get on board with this idea....good thought , except for one thing....these are the people who are in bed with the gas companies anyway...so there would be no help coming there. Nice idea though.

As mentioned in a previous post..the reality of the situation is that most people just don't care enough to do anything about it. All the average person is willing to do is complain to the retailers(who,by the way,are not where the root of the problem lies) or sit and bitch at the local coffee shop or bar...

Exactly. I'm kind of tired of the public's mentality that cheap energy is some sort of human right. There are ways to hedge against rising energy costs and to help mitigate any volatility in pricing. Not every American needs an SUV or to drive like a bat out of hell. Nor does every couple with two children need a 3500 sq. ft. house to heat, cool and power.

Re: Start the buzz!

Yes, most Americans are greedy and want the best. Lets face it it's the American way. Who's to say if I wasn't making $300,000 a year that I wouldn't want a bigger house and a nicer car. When you work for a good company that already has a good retirement package, you max out your 401K, you have cd's or IRA's, you dabble some in the stock market, and you still have discreationary income left over, then why not. I see no problem living high on life if you can afford it. There's nothing wrong with having a SUV if you travel a lot doing backpacking, camping, or big family. If you have a big family then generally you are going to need a bigger house. It kinda goes hand in hand. My g/f came from a family of 5 sisters and they had to have a big house and a SUV's.

LMFAO "oh i thought i didn't need that" i bet in your head you were like "go kick your mom in the ass for me when you get home " 08mazda2.0
