Yeah, I mean, I don't know too much about the hiring process, but....have you ever been to a dealership? From what I can tell, you don't even have to know the first thing about cars, you just need to be able to talk. A lot.

Re: CAR SALESMAN

Like any sales position, you need to know how to sell. If you can sell, you will probably do well as a car salesman.

Re: CAR SALESMAN

Becasue of the a**hole salesman at the Mazda dealership I now drive a Ford. I wanted a Mazda 3 but the salesman wouldnt give me the time of day and treated me like some punk-a** teenager (I was 26 at the time). I litterally drove right accross the street and bought a loaded Fusion off the lot. They were much friendlier over there.

Oh, and my brother was a car salesman for a while. Usually all you need is a HD diploma and a cheap tie. He never made any money at it though cus he is a good guy and couldnt screw people over. He would only sell the car and what people wanted. He never added on anyhting they didnt want. He eventually got let go cus the dealership wasnt making very much off his sales.

Re: CAR SALESMAN

Usually you do not need to study anything. I was offered a job to become a car salesman at a Ford dealership.

So the dealership brought in a company that trains auto salesman. The guy himself interviews you and will tell you whether or not you are elgible for hire right then and there.

Then began the long training process. I went I believe for 3 days, 8 hours a day, stuck in a classroom with about 12 other people. He went over the basics of being a car salesman. Then this is where the ridiculous part of this process came in, if you wanted to "continue" your education into being a car salesman, you have to pay close to $1000 for him to teach you. So I said it is not worth it.

That is what happened in my case, you may be able to just get hired and they might just throw you out on the lot.

I mean no hard feelings for what I post on this website. Anything I type/write/post/say on this forum is only that of general debate and discussion. I am not biased toward anyone or anything. I am neutral in everything I do on this website. Only those facts that are presented to me sway my thought process and siding of each discussion topic that I post about.

Re: CAR SALESMAN

I think you need to make some differentiation between a car salesman and the "closers" or whatever they call them.

Most dealerships around here the car salesman is nothing but a pretty face with a likeable personality. They make you feel good about the dealership. Everything else is done by closers, etc that make the deals and are real asses.

Most of the car salesmen that I've meet at the dealerships around here know nothing about the cars they sell. I could care less about the dealership that we bought our mazda from, but I like the salesman he's a pretty cool guy. So in that scenario, the dealer's strategy paid off. To me, that is what the car salesman is supposed to do, and he did it well.
