So now what?

So I was driving to work this morning, just got off the highway, and was crossing the overpass. I'm in the right lane, no problems at all, when I look over to my left and I see this car losing control. Apparently those "beware of ice on bridge" signs are there for a reason. Anyways, the car is heading right for me, so I try to get out of the way, but alas, I hear the car make contact with mine. Not that hard, my car didn't even rock or anything, if I were deaf, I'd probably never know. So, I stop and and the car pulls up beside me. I roll down my window, she rolls down hers. "Did I hit you?" she asks. "Yes you did." I respond. She pulls up in front of me, while I get out to check the damages. By the smears in the dirt on my car I could definately tell that I had been hit, but it was dark, so other than that I couldn't tell how bad the damage was. I walk up to her car, she asks if she wants to call the cops. Since I didn't see any damage, and she wasn't fleeing the scene, I just decided to get her info, and take a look at it when the sun came up, then go from there. Well, I go out on break to take a look and there is a dent there. On my side, right where the rear bumper meets the metal. Its nothing major, if you didnt drive a 3, you'd probably miss it most of the time. But I do drive a 3, and its all i can see now. So I guess I'm going to have her insurance fix it. So this is where I need some advice from anyone thats had this happen. What do I do first, just call her insurance company and go from there? I guess out of courtesy, I should give her a call too, let her know whats up. Sigh, I have a feeling its going to be a lot of hassle for such a small dent. But I know If I dont get it fixed while I can at no cost to me, I'll just regret it down the road.

She sounds like a decent person so I would call her to let her know there is a small dent. Then I'd go for a repair estimate. Based off of the estimate, she may want to pay out of pocket and avoid an insurance claim.

If she's had a change of heart (like after speaking with family) and doesn't want to pay, you may have to take to small claims court. This happened to a friend of mine. The note that was provided with the contact and insurance info was deemed an admission of guilt so they received compensation. Good luck!

Re: So now what?

If she seems decent, call her and say I see a small dent, do you want to pay out of pocket, or do you want me to call insurance.

If she wants to pay out of pocket, get it done fast. and that be the end of it.
Also get it in writing, an admission of guilt, yes I hit you, yada yada and I'll pay for damages out of pocket.

If she wants to go thru insurance, call insurance.

GL man!

I would go to the police station and still file a report just to cover your own behind. You don't have to worry about calling her insurance, just yours . Good luck with everything.

Re: So now what?

Dah, this sucks, so I should get some estimates first? Just go to a body shop, and have them look at it I guess? Seems time consuming. I don't want to wait too long to do something. I figure the longer I wait, the more she might "forget" it happened. I think I'll stop by my insurance company tomorrow and see what they say. Strange feeling tho to be just driving and look over and see a set of head lights pointed at ya.

I would not do this...Because technically you both fled the scene! So...if they wanted to be dicks, they could...

Id ask if she wants to pay it out of her own pocket, or pay for it for the next 10 years. Most people if its minor would rather pay out of the pocket instead of paying 100$ more a month until they retire.

Re: So now what?

Call her, let her know you see a dent, then notify your insurance company of the accident. You could always go out of pocket, but for your sake, you're better off going through insurance.
