Shrink MP3 File?

I thought I'd come to some of you guys for answers before downloading a bunch of shit from download.com and to not have them work correctly.

I have an mp3 file that is 58.4 MB and comes out to about 85 minutes long. The CD-R's I have are 700 MB or 80 minutes. I have to burn it as an Audio cd because I don't have a mp3 reader in my speed3 (dammit! lol).

Question: Does anyone know of free software that can modify my mp3, such as shave off a few minutes at the beginning or end to make it fit on my cd?

Thanks!

Re: Shrink MP3 File?

Yeah, get Audacity and chop off whatever part(s) you like least. You can even fade in/out.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net

I use this alll the time.

Re: Shrink MP3 File?

P.S. i would strongly recommend saving your modified version as a WAV file and burning that to your audio CD, so you don't degrade the quality of the song even further than the initial mp3 compression already did. It's a very lossy format.
