I get the dumbest tickets ever
There are no extenuating circumstances
First: Got pulled over for picking up a friend after school, reason no pickup zone on the streets next to a school 120 dollar ticket 3 points
Today: Got pulled over for "following too close" to the car in front of me at 46 mph, Cop pulled me and the guy behind me over. Came up to me and said I was going 58 and was following too close, I corrected him, and he said speed doesn't matter, you were still too close (I was about 2.5 carlengths) I didn't even know this was a law 123.50 and 3 points
This is bull----

Woah, those ARE some interesting situations.
Back in 1998, I got pulled over (on my way to the beach to look for a summer job) because the officer thought I had stolen tags. Turns out, I had my dad's tags on my vehicle and my dad had mine. We had gotten a vehicle from the same dealership (both used) and guess they got mixed up. He let me go with a warning, felt blessed.
Otherwise, I got pulled over because I had 'too dark' of a license plate cover. That is as weird as my situations get.

3 points for a no pickup zone? That is retarded. I don't know how many points your legally allowed to accumulate, but where I live you get your license pulled after 15 (I think). I could understand if the no pick up zone was on the busiest highway in town and your caused a gridlock, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't.

Guy I once knew was ticketed for not going immediately on Green. At an intersection in the middle of nowhere, at like 2am. No other cars in sight.

I got a following too closely ticket when i was 16. Had to go to court even. Luciky they threw it out and just made me pay the court fees.
Re: I get the dumbest tickets ever
wats really stupid about this one is the fact that I never even heard of this ticket, never read it or anything, just always thought of the carlength distance as a precaution that you take, NOT A LAW

Sorry, but it's pretty obvious to most people that tailgating is a ticketable offense, just like most other dangerous moving violations. However, 2.5 car lengths (if you're being truthful) seems like a normal following distance nowadays.

Re: I get the dumbest tickets ever
thats plenty of room
but now that I know its a law, I see it being violated everywhere especially the interstate, and start with the comments to myself "why didn't he pull them over"
also, its bikeweek down here, and the cops have a certain quota to meet for this week

Yeah, you never know the true motivation for them to single you out from the crowd. It pays to drive a car that looks "grown up" and to not be a teenager. That takes away most of their motivation
The problem with the "following too closely" ticket is that it's purely subjective and the officer probably has no way of proving it. I'm not for fighting tickets, but I'd probably fight that one.
