Taxes

I normally go to HR Block to take care of my taxes, but don't feel like wasting my time and money on something like that this year. What software or office do you guys (and gals) normally use/go to to take care of taxes?

Marines I see as two breeds, Rottweilers or Dobermans, because Marines come in two varieties, big and mean, or skinny and mean. They're aggressive on the attack and tenacious on defense. They've got really short hair and they always go for the throat. -RAdm. "Jay" R. Stark, USN; 10 November 1995

Re: Taxes

what kind of tax issues are you dealing with.

No offense to you, me, or anyone on here, but if a Mazda 3 is your primary car its a reasonably sound assumption you don't have all of your money in oil and gas hedge funds or the like. It may be really easy to just download the forms from the IRS and do it yourself in like 2 hours.

Re: Taxes

If you don't have to itemize any deductions for school, mortgage, cd interest, checking account interest, and any other earned income than you can go to www.turbotax.com and do your taxes for free. You can only do them for free if you make less than $50k a year and it's very barebone. If you have any deductions at all then it would cost you probably $24.99-29.99. I did my deductions with turbo tax this year and it only cost me $14.99 with free efile, but I was a returning customer from last year.

Re: Taxes

I use my CPA MIL.

College, house, home improvements, etc, etc... it adds up.

Prior to marriage and all the extra deductions I just did the 1040EZ in ~30 minutes. Make a 2nd copy for your records.

Re: Taxes

Yeah, 1040EZ is the way to go if single and don't own your own home and/or have large amounts of taxable interest income that comes in annually. In 2010 if I'm married my taxes will be a completely different story.

Re: Taxes

Ok, went with hrblock.com but now I got a response saying that my file can't be submitted electronically. I don't have anything crazy weird to file couple of w2's, an education thing, and took some money out of an IRA. Did I do something wrong?

Re: Taxes

With the free turbotax, can you do donations or do u have to go with the basic or a higher one? ANyone knows?
I didn't really do that much charity this here, maybe less than $1k. Is it even worth paying for the higher versions so I can deduct it?
