Cloverfield

I just watched it last night. The filming was so much worse than Blair Witch. I didn't actually think that people got sick from watching a movie filmed like that, but there were multiple people in the bathroom throwing up. The story was really cool, but I would have rather read the story than watch shakey video. There is at least a gratifying shot of the monster within the movie.

Re: Cloverfield

So tell me, I've been reading a lot about this online about the speculation that this is possibly a Voltron movie or a US version of Godzilla but there are some compeling arguements against these speculations...is everyone out to lunch on this one, what is the "monster"?

Just wait and see the movie like the rest of us!

I'm 100% sure it isn't Voltron at this point, and a "US version of Godzilla" is way too vague. From the previews it looks like it IS a giant monster (a la Godzilla) but they already made a (shitty) US version of Godzilla so this is definitely not that. I do think it's a monster movie with the perspective that YOU are actually THERE and not just watching... hence the camcorder recordings.

I was really hoping the entire movie would not be in that view (first person style) i havent seen it yet but i dont really like that type of filming. They also did it in a small section of the Doom movie as well only it probably wasnt as shaky however still in first person, which i also didnt like very much.

Re: Cloverfield

Doom had a lot more problems with it then just the perspective in a tiny piece of it.

I am a little interested to know a bit of the story...but I have 0 interest in seeing the movie...even if it were free. I feel like 2-3hrs of life are worth more then that.

My only issue with Doom was that instead of the demons being from Hell, they were transformed by some virus.. bleh, dumb.

As for the first person aspect of Doom, how can you not appreciate that if you had played the game and such? It was just a nod to those of us who have played and enjoyed the series.

Re: Cloverfield

I didn't really have an issue with the first person perspective (other then it looked like something out of a nice video game, then actually from the persepctive of a person). I just generally had problems with the movie. I didn't like the virus aspect and in generally it felt clunky with overdone acting. Basically a lot like I would expect from an Uwe Boll movie.

I can definitely see people making the comparison of Blair Witch meets Godzilla. The entire movie is from the camcorder a kid is carrying around to document the whole thing. It was extremely shakey. It's was too much if you ask me. I mean, I watch skate video where guys are filming from a moving skateboard (hard polyurethane wheels and no suspension) and the video is smoother than what you see in this movie. I did not think the one gratifying shot of this monster was worth watching an entire movie in this style. I really liked the story though.

Re: Cloverfield

Ok, when you say the film was shaky, like how shaky? Cus I really want to watch this movie only to find out what the hell that thing is and what's going on. Also, if people were throwing up due to motion sickness from the movie, that's friggin' horrible, and why would someone direct and produce a movie like that? Did the monster look cool in any way?
