broken window. gps stolen. UPDATE* ANOTHER CAR BROKEN INTO

So my father drives a VW touareq (range rover style suv from vw) and recently purchased a magellan GPS.
I live in a good neighborhood "for the most part" and had a camera system in my house due to some imature little kids messing with our cars "as well as some of our other neighbors".

this happened a few years ago, anyways back on topic. For xmas my father purchased a GPS system. He practically fell in love with the thing and it was really the only piece of technology hes been intrigued by in a long time.

So i wake up today to my phone ringing... It was my mom calling from her room "intercom style phones at my house'
saying.... someone broke into the SUV....
when i asked "did you catch it on camera?"
my fathers aggrivated face said.... no i took the cameras down a few weeks ago to purchase new ones.....

Appearantly they walked up to the SUV, punched in the window and stole the GPS
so thats 250 for a new window+200 for the GPS.
all for some stupid drug addicted loser who's scared to get a job to get his dose of pot for one night..

damn that pisses me off.

any remarks?

EDIT: btw. i got lucky, i had my 30 GIG ipod AND my IPOD touch in my car on the seat "clearly visible"...
guess i just got lucky because my tints were so dark, they probably didnt even notice.

UPDATE***** my neighbor BRYAN, a fellow mz3forum member with a hiboostedmz3 sedan. had his car broken into today and his laptop, and cop radar stolen....

Luckily it sounds like your family will be able to recover from this loss.

Dont most GPS devices have a code which will make it useless if reported stolen?

Re: broken window... gps stolen...

yea, i heard that too about the code.. look into it. catch that mutha drugga! :P

this is why my radar is bolted to my roof (in through the slit in the headliner to a small bolt behind it). it keeps it up soo high that from the outside you cant see it unless you already know its there. even then, it looks like a garage door opener or sensor or something. and its hardwired with no visible wires. anything to help me out.. last thing i want is for this to happen.

sorry to hear about it, but it could have been a lot worse on many levels

crack heads don't think about that...some crackhead destroyed my bmw covertable getting the stock radio (coded) out and didn't even know the amp was under the seat.

Re: broken window... gps stolen...

Remarks? Yeah, no matter how "safe" the area you're in is, take anything important out of the car (especially if it's got a visible mount, i.e. gps or satellite receiver), or at least hide it well.

Re: broken window... gps stolen...

Yeah well I had a crackhead jack a labtop out of my car. My renters insurance shelled out 1200 bucks to replace it. I lefted my door open so it was my fault but they didnt need to shatter the window.
