For all you photographers...

I have officially given up on ever finding my digital camera and have come to the conclusion that my movers stole it since I haven't seen it since then. With that...

What's the best digital camera I can get for around $300? I wish I could afford a DSLR but there a little out of my price range. I would like to be above 7MP and have some decent optical zoom. This camera will only be used for the occasional vacation, holiday, family pictures but I would also like to use it to take some nice pictures of my MS3.

Feel free to PM me with any camera meeting my requirements you are personally selling.

Also what is a good free (or can get free) program to download that you can use to photoshop/edit your pictures with and where do you get it?

Re: For all you photographers...

have you been to http://imaging-resource.com/
I like Dave's picks on that site...
http://imaging-resource.com/WB/WB.HTM

the detail of their reviews is very complete an Dave's Picks narrows down your search into the best camera's in various categories (all-around, budget, pocket, pro...)

Check the features of each camera, the strengths and weaknesses...make sure the movie formats are what you want... (15fps,30fps, 60fps...)

Although I haven't used it...GIMP is a very popular free PS type application.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP

Also, most new cameras come with some sort of software...although the capabilities vary.

Re: For all you photographers...

I had TERRIFIC luck with my old P&S camera. It was a Kodak EasyShare... I absolutely loved it.

As for programs, GIMP... free and easy. =)

Lara, will you send me a "before" and "after" pic you've processed/enhanced.
I really like your pics and I want to see how much you're changing the originals (if at all).
I don't currently use any of the fancy GIMP or PS tools...but I probably want to if I want my pics to look as good as yours?

Re: For all you photographers...

There is hardly any photoshop work going into my photos. Generally just a bit of work to enhance the shadows and highlights... and then a resize and sharpen. I'm at work now... but I'll be happy to dig those up for you.

However, I currently have a Canon EOS Digital Rebel... the Kodak EasyShare I had is no longer with me. I can dig up some pictures I took with that if you'd like me to. =)

Re: For all you photographers...

No problem! As you can see... no huge changes. Just minor tweaking.

Re: For all you photographers...

IF you're just looking for a decent Point & Shoot, I'd recommend the Canon SD8xx series (not sure which one can be had for $300... I haven't looked in a while).
