Crazy Idea need help

Hello everyone,

I've got a pretty odd idea that I would like help with. I want to buy a Ford Fusion radio and put it in place of the intercom system in my room then purchase some nice speakers and make a unique radio system with it. I don't know where I could get the radio for a cheap price (Besides junkyard) and I don't know if it is possible to change the intercom set-up directly to the radio connections. I've got some pics and measurements and would like some help. Thanks !

Ford Fusion Radio:
Length- 7.5 inches <--->

Height- 4.752 inches

Intercom:
Length- 10 inches <--->

Height- 6.25 inches

Uhhh..... why? Isn't the intercom outside? I would guess the radio would get damaged by humidity, and... it's outside!

Well, in order for a intercom to work, you need a minimum of two, you would need one outside and one inside.

Btw, cool idea on trying to get a radio in there, but you would have to rewire the radios internals to get the functions of the intercom and add an rectifier (ac to dc) to make the thing work. Its more of a major pain in the rear to take on that task if you have no "McGyver" wiring skills.

I'd remove the intercom, patch the wall and call it a day.

Re: Crazy Idea need help

You are also going to need a voltage converter. you are going to need a voltage converter. The intercom probably has a transformer to step down the voltage from 110-120v AC to either 12v AC or 12v DC, however I doubt you are going to be able to reuse the transformer and/or converter for the radio, so you are going to have to get one to step down the household current to the 12v DC that you will need for the radio.

Something else to keep in mind is that intercom is almost certainly shallow enough to fit in a standard 2x4 wall. Standard 2x4 wall has 3.5 inches of depth between the drywall to work with, if you take into account the thickness of normal drywall, half inch, you maybe have 4 inches of working space from the front paper to the back of the drywall on the other side of the wall. I can guarantee that the ford fusion radio is deeper then that.

Its a nice thought, but I don't see it working. Just patch the holes of the old intercoms and call it a day.
