The funny thing about private health insurance

Their purpose:To hold and then distribute our money as we need it in times of injury and sickness.
Their goal: To hold our money and profit.

Thats a direct contradiction and makes no sense whatsoever. They don't benefit from giving us our money back yet that is what they are supposed to do and often fight it as much as possible. America needs universal health care, but it better not cover cosmetic surgeries or unnecessary procedures.

America needs to make health care available to everyone, not a universal system like Canada. I heard that thier government selects your doctor and there are time when you have to wait months to see a specialist. If everyone had insurence that would be great, but we cannot let the government take control of it.

Its not funny. They make money by denying service, the very service we pay them to provide.

You're assuming that the money you give them simply sits in their bank account. It doesn't. They invest that money and earn quite a bit of interest. The profit comes from using the money, not from keeping the money.

Their interest in not paying out doesn't come from a desire to simply hang onto your money, but an understanding that they can't simply pay out 100% of the money that they take in. You pay a couple thousand bucks a year in insurance premiums, and you go to the doctor twice and cost them $500. Someone else pays the same amount of money and gets cancer and costs them $1million. If they don't try and control how much they spend on your care, then there isn't enough money to spend on someone else's care.

They don't benefit from giving you your money back, but neither do they benefit from NOT giving it back to YOU...someone ELSE benefits from getting your money to pay for care that they couldn't otherwise afford.

As for universal health care...how will that solve the problem you present in your post? Assuming that the costs break even, and your taxes increase is canceled out by not having to pay an insurance premium, there is still the interest in controlling spending. In fact, it's the same interest: spend as little as possible on each patient so that the money is there for the patients that require more care.

As to your other point, that it shouldn't pay for things that are unnecessary...who gets to define what is and isn't necessary? You? Me? Congress?

Something that advocates of government run/managed health care never seem able to explain: how can you criticize and complain about government mismanagement, wasteful spending, and general incompetence, yet hand over responsibility for your health care to these same people?
