Half a cup of coffee?

So part of my job is working in a coffee bar, which totally blows. The house coffees are out where the customer can serve themselves, so they buy the cup from the counter and then fill it. Some old fart wanted to only pay half price because he only wanted half a cup. I told him the smallest cup we had was a $1.10 and whether or not he filled it all the way was not my problem. I can't give him half a cup and sell the other half to someone else. He ended up just leaving the money on the counter and walking away, which is theft, of a whole 55 cents.
Am I following the rules to closely of is the old man kooky? Cause if thats the case, I am buying my next newspaper at 3/4 the price because I just throw away the ads.

Re: Half a cup of coffee?

They think because their old they can get away with stuff like that. It is ridiculous.

I mean no hard feelings for what I post on this website. Anything I type/write/post/say on this forum is only that of general debate and discussion. I am not biased toward anyone or anything. I am neutral in everything I do on this website. Only those facts that are presented to me sway my thought process and siding of each discussion topic that I post about.

Bwa ha ha. That's great. I'll start paying 1/5 of my cable bill since that's all I watch.

Re: Half a cup of coffee?

No, I agree with you 100%. I would have told the man, probably loudly, that if does not pay for the full cup of coffee that you would call the police for theft.

In places where refills are free it is understood that you are 'paying' for the container and the ability to fill it to your hearts content.

55 cents isn't much, but it is still theft on his part. Old people seem to be the most belligerant people in the universe and have an atitude of "I am old and I have earned special treatment"...even when most of them are just old and mean. A lot of old people are nice, but the ones that aren't are royal assholes.

Being able to serve yourself does not mean that refills are free, necessarily (or indeed, in most places, for coffee).

Re: Half a cup of coffee?

Point, I was more refering to locations where refills are free, but I guess that may not be the case there.

Re: Half a cup of coffee?

when i worked at pizza hut i used to encounter all sorts of crazy bartering scenarios and people who thought they could simply pay what they felt was valid, or try to talk me down in price as though i have any sway over the prices at all.

the best combo is east indian males over 50. they'll try to convince you that YOU should be paying for their food.

He should know better. He's an adult. I would've threatened to call the cops.
