Re: Steroid Usage Banter Thread

on a serious note though....

I understand why people look down on steroid use for the average person. But to say a professional athlete is cheating is almost silly in some respects. The usage of drugs in sports is so widespread that in some sports you are far below the curve if you are not abusing AAS or blood doping.

Professional athletes put their bodies on the line whether they are natural or not, so it seems very easy to justify steroid usage from their POV. The real downside is that it does send a message to younger impressional folks that certain things cannot be accomplished without the drugs.

I think it's sad that athletes have to use drugs to achieve the same level of greatness and legend status that a lot of former players did without it. Have some self-respect in yourself to try and do things without cheating. And if you can't "compete", then get out and do something else with your life.

I also find it hilarious that people are willing to do irreversible damage to themselves just to get their 15 minutes.

I hope they do give Barry Bonds an asterik next to his name in the Hall of Fame.

At times, I agree with the idea that we might as well just accept that steroid use is one more way that pro athletes are modifying their bodies, naturally or not. But then I reach the thought that you mentioned above.

Pro athletes are getting paid handsomely for the use of their bodies, so it doesn't bother me much if they are slowly killing themselves with drugs and whatever. But, for every pro athlete on drugs, there are going to be many many college and even high-school athletes poisoning themselves for nothing. And that number will only rise with the level that we tolerate steroids in professional sports.

It's a slippery slope that way, which is why I'm all for a zero-tolerance policy. The arguable increase in entertainment value that may result from artificially huge athletes is not at all worth the devastating effects it's accepted use could have on younger athletes.

Re: Steroid Usage Banter Thread

thing is there are many sports with so called zero tolerance policies. it never stops people from taking the risk. and everyone will always know about the option to use steroids...and they are not hard to get whatsoever. I almost think that if someone has it determined in their head that they are going to use than there is usually no convincing them otherwise.

What should be done is that people should be educated about the usage of AAS. Should be encouraged to get regular check ups, with a doctor knowledgeable of the effects. And proper dosages could be given almost like a prescription. I say this based on the idea that it is impossible to stop people from doing it, and that at the very least there is a certain level of safety.
