peanutbutter and toothpaste

Ok so.

Sunday nights i usually try to make use of my ps3, wii, and 360. The usual routine would be me having my friend sean, my friend jon, and sometimes a few other friends who want to join come over my house to play some games. So anyways, me and sean decided to play the original "morrowind" game for the xbox. So we pop it in my 360, it works for like 5 seconds. then bam. "unable to read data".
Appearantly the cd had alot of scratches from floating around my room for a few years considering i usually dont play video games. At this point me and sean look at eachother and say.. "f***" and jon looks at me with this smirk on his face and says "rub peanut butter and tooth paste on it".......
at this point me and sean were literally crying on the floor from laughing so hard at jons ridiculous idea.
so he sets out to prove us wrong. he rubs peanut butter on the game, washes it off with water "gently" and puts the game in.

the game works for like 2 seconds more than it originally did. so me and sean start laughing at his face again. at this point, i was skeptical about doing it thinking "hmm peanutbutter+xbox360=BAD" but jon wants to prove us wrong.

so we make a truce, if my 360 breaks my christmas present is a new 360 from him.

so round 2. now the toothpaste. he does the same process rub it on gently, let the water take it off and very careful rubbed the disc with his fingers. 2 mins later he shows up with the cd extra shiny and says. "try it" i stare at sean and sean says....... "the screens gna go blank, ur 360 is gna smoke, and bill gates is gna show up on your tv screen and say.... "you tried the f***ing peanutbutter didnt you."

i felt brave. so i tried it. and to my amazement, and after waking my parents up from so much laughing. IT WORKED!

and it wasnt a one time thing eighter. i had the original halo game that was in HORRIBLE condition. scratches EVERYWHERE. hadnt worked in years. jon did his trick. AND IT WORKED LIKE NEW!!!

yea. but who wouldive thought it would fix scratched video games. youd assume all the chemicals in the paste would mess up the files on the game or something.

Re: peanutbutter and toothpaste

the "media" is safely under the layer of plastic (the top of a CD or DVD is actually more easily damaged, I think).

I've been using Turtlewax swirl remover to fix scratched CDs for years...
